Laughter at Golden Retriever More Interested in Female Dog Than Treats

A golden retriever has melted hearts after he displayed a surprising disinterest in treats, opting instead for directing his attention towards a female dog.

Winston, a 2-year-old golden, was caught on camera by owner Melanie Claymon from Carmel, Indiana, when they visited a nearby bakery.

Typically known for his love of food, Winston stunned his owner when he diverted his attention to a furry friend behind the bakery counter—despite being offered a treat at the time.

“I was pretty surprised he didn’t want the treat the cashier was holding right under his nose and instead he just kept looking at the cute dog behind the counter,” Claymon told Newsweek.

The charismatic canine is usually driven by his insatiable love for treats, making his unexpected infatuation all the more amusing. “He loves people, but is usually more interested in food than he was that day,” his owner explained.

With an unwavering gaze at the female dog behind the counter, he completely ignored the cashier despite the treat in hand.

Gaining more than 170,000 views on TikTok, the video has delighted the internet. In the comments, one viewer said: “Prince dancing with Cinderella. Brings back childhood memories.”

While it might seem a little bit unusual, it isn’t unheard of for a dog to be more interested in another canine than the treats they’re being offered, for several reasons.

With a natural desire to socialize with others, the instinct to get to know a new friend and play can be more appealing than even the tastiest treat.

Last month, a love story between two dogs left people in tears after they formed an amazing bond. Elsewhere online another pair of canine best friends melted hearts waiting in the same spot every morning to greet each other for another day of fun and games.

“I am happy to see how many people are enjoying this video, but was not expecting the reaction from some viewers about the woman who was trying to push the dog behind the counter down,” Claymon said.

Unbeknownst to her, some comments pointed out the woman’s attempt to discourage the female dog from having her paws on the counter. “She told me the dog usually wasn’t allowed to have her paws up on the counter,” she explained.
