A video of a dog that gets moved to his owner’s bedroom every evening has gone viral on TikTok.

The clip was posted by @ralphieboy15, the TikTok account of a dog named Ralphie, and has received over 506,000 views since it was shared six days ago.

A message overlaid on the video says: “How my dog gets transported from from the loungeroom to the bedroom every night…(doesn’t even flinch).” The footage shows a man dragging a dog bed into a bedroom, with the canine lying still on the bed.

A caption posted with the clip simply reads: “Dog uber.”

In later comments, the poster said the pup is a “9.5 year old baby” and will “cry in the night to get moved” if he’s left in the lounge room.

The dog’s attachment to the owner is understandable because our canine companions share a unique bond with their human companions.

A May 2013 study published in the online journal PLOS One said this close bond “bears a remarkable resemblance to an infant attachment bond: dogs are dependent on human care and their behavior seems specifically geared to engage their owners’ care-giving system.”

More than half (62 percent) of small dogs and just under half (41 percent) of medium-sized dogs, as well as around a third (32 percent) of large dogs, sleep with their owners, according to a survey by the American Pet Products Association, WebMD reported in April 2012.

But allowing your dog to sleep with you in bed is not always a good idea for health reasons. Dogs carry certain intestinal parasites, fleas and ticks that cause human illnesses, veterinarians Ryan Llera and Lynn Buzhardt warned in an article for VCA, one of North America’s largest animal hospital chains.

Canines may also prevent you from getting a good night’s sleep. A November 2018 study of Australian dog owners that was published in Anthrozoös found that “co-sleeping appears to cause sleep disturbances (both arousals and wake ups).”
