U.S. House Rep. Lauren Boebert, a Republican serving Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District, was mocked on Friday after a CNN report stating she was “overserved” at a GOP event in December 2023.

Melanie Zanona, a CNN Capitol Hill reporter who published an article on Friday about Boebert’s reported antics at the December event, told CNN This Morning’s Kasie Hunt that the congresswoman was told by staff that they would not bring her any more alcoholic beverages because she had been “overserved” at the Republican gala in New York City, which was headlined by former President Donald Trump late last year.

Boebert, who is running for Colorado’s 4th Congressional District in 2024, is no stranger to controversy. In September 2023, the outspoken GOP lawmaker was ejected from the Buell Theater in Denver during a performance of Beetlejuice The Musical. The congresswoman was caught on surveillance video vaping and showing public displays of affection with her date for the show.

Newsweek reached out to Boebert’s office and campaign via email for comment.

Zanona reported that, according to witnesses, Trump’s security people had to ask the congresswoman to stop trying to pose for pictures with the former president at the December event.

Trump has still backed Boebert in her House race, calling her a “Proven Conservative and Effective Leader who delivers for Colorado, and our America First agenda,” in a post on his social media site Truth Social in March.

People flocked to X, formerly Twitter, to share their reactions to the CNN report on Friday.

An X account known as The Intellectualist wrote: “She is a grandmother acting like a high school student.”

Bobert, who is currently 37 years old, became a grandmother last year after her teenage son and his girlfriend had a child.

“Lauren Boebert cut off at a Trump fundraiser because the bartender thinks she’s too drunk,” wrote Richard Hanania, president of the Center for the Study of Partisanship and Ideology. “Her allies defend her by saying she wasn’t drunk, she only seems drunk all the time because of how loud and obnoxious she is,” he said referencing the report.

X user @aintscarylarry wrote: “Lauren Boebert was so out of control at a trump fundraiser that they had to stop serving her alcohol. Begs the question: How s***faced and obnoxious do you have to be to get cut off at a trump fundraiser??”

“Obviously she learned no lessons after the Denver incident,” X user @miamac88 wrote.

Bobert is vying for now-retired Republican Rep. Ken Buck’s seat. Buck initially planned to retire at the end of his term in January 2025, but ended up leaving office in March. A special election will be held June 25 to fill the vacancy left by Buck until the full election in November.
