New York Attorney General Letitia James has raised $400,000 since her civil fraud case against former President Donald Trump went to trial last fall.

James’ reelection campaign raked in $468,073 between the beginning of the trial, October 2, 2023, and the most recent reporting date, January 12, 2024, state campaign finance data shows. That figure includes a $70,000 transfer from the attorney general’s 2026 campaign, which is not necessarily a new contribution.

The most up-to-date filings don’t include February, during which Judge Arthur Engoron ordered a $354 million judgment against Trump, nor March, when the former president scrambled to obtain a bond for the multi-million dollar ruling while he appealed the decision. It is unclear if those events, or Trump’s response to them, boosted James’ fundraising efforts. Trump ultimately posted a $175 million bond agreement, a deal that was reached last month and saved him from a financial catastrophe.

Newsweek has reached out to James and Trump via email for comment.

James has become one of Trump’s biggest political rivals over the course of the trial, and the presumptive GOP nominee has aggressively railed against her on social media in the weeks since Engoron’s judgment came down. Over Truth Social, he has repeatedly called James “racist” and “corrupt” and accused the attorney general of bringing an “unfair case” against him.

Last month, he wrote that James was “considered by many to be the WORST Attorney General in the U.S.” in a rant against her and Engoron.

“She is a Low IQ individual who campaigned for Governor, using my name, and got TROUNCED. She and her PUPPET Engoron, who valued Mar-a-Lago at $18,000,000 when it is worth 50 to 100 times that amount, have destroyed all business prospects for New York State, that is already dying, or dead. But have no fear —When I become the 47th President, we will MAKE NEW YORK GREAT AGAIN!” Trump said on March 22.

In the last week, he has also raged against Judge Juan Merchan, the judge presiding over his Manhattan criminal case, and even threatened to sue him in an effort to stop the trial from beginning April 15.

James has vocally criticized Trump in recent weeks. When Trump was struggling to find an insurance company to write his appeal bond, James signaled she was prepared to begin freezing his bank accounts and seizing his New York properties.

The campaign donations that James received between October 2023 and January 2024 are largely in-state donations. New York contributions account for just over 40 percent of the fundraising period. James has also received an influx of donations from California and Texas and raised money across a total of 33 states, as well as Washington D.C.

James was first elected as attorney general in 2018, becoming the state’s first Black attorney general and first woman ever elected to the office. She was reelected in 2022 after she chose to seek reelection instead of going through with her bid for the governor’s race. Her current term ends January 1, 2027.
