Madonna is no stranger to controversy—and now she’s being slammed online for bringing out Amy Schumer as a surprise guest at one of her concerts.

The Queen of Pop is in the middle of her The Celebration Tour, which is Madonna’s 12th tour and honors the singer-songwriter’s four-decade career. The 79-date tour—spanning both Europe and North America—was originally supposed to kick off in June, but was postponed until October after the Grammy-winner was hospitalized due to “a serious bacterial infection.”

She returned to the stage at Madison Square Garden Tuesday night after previously being more than two hours late to a Brooklyn show. As a part of her tour, Madonna has been inviting celebrity guests to join her on-stage as the “ballroom b****” of the night. Together, Madonna and said guests give out scores to the dancers performing around them, with previous guests being the likes of designer Donatella Versace and model Julia Fox.

While she was performing “Vogue,” Madonna brought Schumer to the stage to help with judging the dancers. People online aren’t happy, as the stand-up comedian has found herself in a variety of controversies recently. Schumer has previously come under fire for her comments about Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, having regularly shown her support for Israel online.

On October 7, Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel, saying it was retribution for worsening conditions for Palestinians. In response, Israel launched hundreds of airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, followed by extensive ground operations. At least 1,200 people have been killed in Israel, while at least 25,490 Palestinians have been killed, with many more injured and over 1.5 million internally displaced in Gaza, according to the Associated Press.

Newsweek contacted representatives for Madonna and Schumer via email for comment Wednesday.

The entertainment X account (formerly Twitter) Pop Base posted: “Madonna brings out Amy Schumer as a special guest at her Celebration Tour in Madison Square Garden.” At the time of writing the video had been viewed 1.9 million times.

“Imagine paying for an overpriced ticket and then waiting an additional two hours for Madonna to come on late and your special guest is Amy Schumer, I’d be pissed,” one person wrote online.

“Why would Madonna bring out Amy Schumer she hates you all,” said another.

“madonna bringing out amy schumer, like was nobody else in nyc free on a tuesday night?” someone else asked.

“if i went for a madonna concert and amy schumer showed up, i’d ask for a partial refund,” a fourth person wrote.

A fifth added: “Worst thing Madonnas ever done.”

However, not everyone has reacted negatively to the news, as some X users have shared their love for Madonna.

“Living legend,” one person wrote while another posted: “Queen.”

“She is a true rockstar lots of love to her,” said another.

A fourth added: “Damnn ! Fine lady . Love you, Madonna.”

Madonna’s concert tour has been a talking point for various reasons throughout its run. Despite rave reviews from critics and fans, a clip of Madonna on stage previously went viral for all of the wrong reasons.

While performing her 1998 hit “Ray of Light,” the singer—decked out in a reflective skin-tight body suit and futuristic sunglasses—danced in a moving glass box, using a pole for support as the platform circled the venue.

However, someone cropped out the box in a clip of the performance, which just showed Madonna gripping the pole behind her. The video went viral and was shared by multiple people on X who mocked the Grammy winner.

The viral content doesn’t end there, as in December, footage of Madonna fans looking “bored” at her Brooklyn concert was shared to social media after the pop icon was more than two hours late. While the 65-year-old singer scheduled to appear on the Barclays Center stage at 8.30 p.m., she didn’t start performing until 10:45 p.m. A fan posted a video online of the weary audience scrolling through their phones and doing a Mexican wave.
