Supporters of the MAGA movement raised questions on Thursday after prosecutors requested jail time for the individual involved in the theft of Ashley Biden’s diary.

On Tuesday, prosecutors in New York sent a letter to a judge requesting that Aimee Harris, the individual accused of stealing the diary of U.S. President Joe Biden’s daughter, face four to 10 months of jail time in the case.

“The defendant’s sentence must also account for the manner in which she has abused the administration of justice throughout the pendency of this court proceeding,” the letter filed by U.S. Attorney Damian Williams, said. “The defendant has repeatedly and consistently engaged in tactics to improperly delay this proceeding, including by misleading the Court with false information to justify belated and unmerited requests for adjournments, refusing to appear when directed, and failing to comply with court orders to disclose or produce certain information.”

In 2022, Harris and Robert Kurlander were arrested in connection with the theft of Ashley Biden’s diary. The two “pled guilty to conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property involving the theft of personal belongings of an immediate family member of a then-former government official who was a candidate for national political office,” the Department of Justice said. Newsweek previously reported that the two sold the diary to Project Veritas, a controversial conservative news organization. However, Project Veritas never published the diary.

Snopes, the fact-checking news site, reported in March 2023 that reporting and circumstantial evidence “strongly” suggest that the stolen diary belonged to Ashley Biden, but there was never any official confirmation from law enforcement or government agencies.

However, shortly after the letter on Tuesday, many conservative social media users raised questions about the diary.

“If the Ashley Biden diary content is fake, why demand prison time?” @DogRightGirl wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

X user Native Patriot wrote, “I was told over and over again the Ashley Biden diary was fake and debunked by the ‘experts’ Why press charges for a fake diary? Maybe because they’re more upset about us finding out than the crimes themselves.”

Conservative commentator Laura Loomer said, “So if the Ashley Biden diary is real, doesn’t that mean we have a pedophile occupying the White House?”

X user R.C. Maxwell said, “One year ago James O’Keefe and I were undercover in New York. The DOJ has STILL not dropped their case against him for legally obtaining Ashley Biden’s diary. This week they are seeking prison time for the woman who found it after Ashley’s drug bender where she abandoned it. This story is not about James O’Keefe. It’s about a corrupt DOJ spearheaded by a troubled presidential family and a woman tormented by her childhood.”

Newsweek reached out to the White House and Harris’s lawyer via email for comment.
