MAGA Tears Into Mike Johnson: ‘False Prophets’

House Speaker Mike Johnson is continuing to face criticism from MAGA figures ahead of a House vote on Ukraine aid that could result in him being ousted from his role.

Johnson confirmed that the House will vote on three foreign aid bills on Saturday, including one that will provide nearly $61 billion for Ukraine as it continues its fight against Russia’s invasion.

The Ukraine aid bill has been met with strong opposition from hardline GOP House members, including Georgia’s Marjorie Taylor Greene and Kentucky’s Thomas Massie, who have both warned they would introduce a motion to vacate against Johnson for trying to push the President Joe Biden-backed funding bill through through the House.

Johnson’s predecessor, Kevin McCarthy, was ousted as speaker last October as eight Republicans joined the Democrats in supporting a motion to vacate introduced by rep. Matt Gaetz. Due to the GOP’s razor thin majority in the House, Johnson would almost certainly need the support of House Democrats to avoid being removed as speaker if a motion to vacate vote came to the floor.

Ahead of Saturday’s House vote, a number of MAGA and GOP figures hit out at Johnson for allegedly letting Republican voters down by trying to pass foreign aid bills along with the Democrats.

Catturd, an influential conservative social media account with more than 2.4 million followers on X, formerly Twitter, posted: “I’ve never seen a bigger sellout backstabbing snake in my life than Speaker Johnson.

“I can’t believe what a lowlife fraud this loser is. I’m speechless to how bad this phony just sold out Republican voters. When the Bible warned us about false prophets, Mike Johnson is the perfect example.”

Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of former president Donald Trump, also shared a clip of Johnson repeatedly saying that protecting the U.S. border is a priority. Hardline GOP members have criticized Johnson for pushing through with a vote on sending aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, with the packages no longer being combined with a separate border security bill.

“Enough already! If you ever even begin to start believing anything anyone in Republican leadership tells you just watch this,” Trump Jr. wrote. “Pay close attention to those that don’t seem bothered by this. They’re not our friends.”

Greene accused Johnson of acting like a “mini tyrant” over claims, denied by Johnson, that he was considering changing the current House rules on introducing a motion to vacate.

“He’s using backroom deals with Democrats to change the rules of Congress to continue clinging onto his power while passing Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer’s wishlist,” Greene posted. “We need a new Speaker!!”

In a statement, Johnson said he will not try to change the procedure for removing him from the speakership amid pressure from hardline GOP members.

“Since the beginning of the 118th Congress, the House rule allowing a Motion to Vacate from a single member has harmed this office and our House majority,” Johnson said.

“Recently, many members have encouraged me to endorse a new rule to raise this threshold. While I understand the importance of that idea, any rule change requires a majority of the full House, which we do not have. We will continue to govern under the existing rules.”

In another social media post, Colorado’s Lauren Boebert accused Johnson of having “flipped his position” on Ukraine aid entirely after a meeting with the White House on February 28.

“He owes America an honest explanation as to why he flipped. He broke his promise to us,” Boebert wrote.

Johnson has been contacted for comment via email.

When asked if he is worried about his future as speaker ahead of the foreign aid bills votes, Johnson replied: “My philosophy is you do the right thing and you let the chips fall where they may. If I operated out of fear of a motion to vacate, I would never be able to do my job.

“History judges us for what we do. This is a critical time right now—a critical time on the world stage.”
