Getting a library card is free and easy, however, one man had to resubmit his identification at a local library following an honest and hilarious mistake.
Kevin Michie shared on X, formerly Twitter, earlier this month the email he received from the Newmarket Public Library in Ontario, Canada, following his application for a library card. In the post, which was shared to the account @KevinMichie, he wrote that he thought he attached a photo of his driver’s license to prove his address, but the email said otherwise.
The library pointed out in the reply that he didn’t attach a photo of his ID with his name and current address. Instead, Michie accidentally attached a precious photo of his dog preparing to enjoy the solar eclipse that passed through on Monday, April 8.
Part of the email Michie received read: “The photo you submitted was of your dog (who looked like they were enjoying the solar eclipse!!).”

Michie’s dog was seated on the deck ready to go for the eclipse with his glasses on to protect his eyes as the moon moved over the sun.
This photo was definitely not Michie’s driver’s license photo he needed to submit with the application, but one might argue it was way better.
Newsweek has reached out to the Newmarket Public Library for additional comment.
X Users React
Michie’s post so far has over 588,000 views and 33,000 likes. X users were obsessing over the photo, claiming they saw nothing wrong with it for his application.
“They had a GREAT time showing that to all the other library employees. You and your dog are now a wholesome library office moment,” one X user wrote.
A second jokingly added: “You forgot to add your address that’s what the problem was, this image is clearly you.”
Another third suggested: “Your dog should get a card too!”
Libraries, specifically for dogs, are not a far-fetched concept. One woman in Minnesota set up a free library for the local dogs in her neighborhood. Newsweek previously reported how Julie Longenecker made a little library located outside her house. The library is filled with handmade pet toys from her small business Whiskers n’ Paws.
