A man has been backed online after venting his complaints about his wife’s new post-cosmetic surgery look on Reddit. According to the Redditor, the set of procedures have left her looking like “the blue alien from The Fifth Element.”

The man had written on the platform that his wife has looked “weird” ever since she went under the knife. He received an echo chamber of comments in response to his post that cheer on his sentiment and poke fun at his wife’s new visage.

The couple’s marriage has since reached boiling point after the man told his wife that he no longer finds her attractive.

“My wife had plastic surgery recently. We had discussed it and I was against it,” the man said. “It was not my decision and ultimately I had no say. She looks weird now. She had the fat sucked out of her face, lip fillers, a neck lift, and other stuff I don’t really get. She gives me uncanny valley vibes now. It freaks me out.

“She is fully healed now and wants to go back to normal. Like me initiating sex. I have done so but not as much as I used to. And when I do, I try and make sure there is very little light.

“It’s been a few months and I kind of dread having to look at her. She has noticed. She broke down and asked me if I was having an affair. I said that I wasn’t. She then asked me to explain why I changed. I finally told the truth. I just told her that her new face wasn’t something I found attractive and that I was turned off.”

The man’s wife wept after his harsh admission and has since left their shared home to live with her sister, who for the most part has been sending barrages of messages to the man, each outlining what a terrible husband he has been to her sibling.

“I have been called every name in the book since this happened. Her sister said that I’m a piece of s*** for insulting my wife’s looks. Her friends all think I’m the a******,” he continued.

Newsweek reached out to the Redditor via the platform for more information.

Since it had been shared to Reddit on March 9 by u/OKInevitable7692, the post has been upvoted by 37,000 users and commented on more than 7,000 times.

“Googles ‘blue alien from fifth element’ oh lord,” one user wrote.

Another user added: “If she did the buccal fat remover I totally feel you. It makes people look so freaky.”

“No one’s an a****** for what they do or don’t find attractive,” a third user shared.

‘It’s Painful For Both Parties’

Newsweek consulted Rachel Goldberg, a licensed marriage and family therapist, for her take on how the sensitive situation could be handled.

“This situation appears deeply painful for both individuals involved,” Goldberg told Newsweek. “It’s evident that the man genuinely cares about his wife and what seems missing is a need for open, vulnerable conversations to address this challenge.

“While the wife’s reliance on friends and family may be a way to manage her pain, it’s important for her to recognize the impact it is having on their relationship. The core issue isn’t solely about the husband’s uneasiness around his wife’s looks; but what prevented him from being honest early on.

“His lack of attraction to her is something that needs to be addressed between them, the issue of being able to be open and vulnerable without her withdrawing is also something that will need to be worked through. If they can successfully address these underlying issues and improve communication, there’s potential for their relationship to grow stronger.”
