Multiple states are dealing with freezing temperatures, and life for car owners has never been harder. But, luckily, a man has found a genius hack to keep windshields from freezing up, even though some internet users are not convinced.

In a viral video shared on TikTok on Wednesday, under the username @joecunningham64, the man can be seen walking up to his car parked outside in the cold. He laughs as he removes a towel he previously placed on the windshield to keep it from freezing.

While the towel turned into a flat ice-block, the trick seemed to work, because his windshield wasn’t frozen at all after the towel was removed. The hilarious clip comes with a caption that reads: “Put a towel on my windshield to keep it from freezing.” It is followed by: “Well, the windshield didn’t freeze.”

America has seen some extreme weather conditions across most of the country in the last few weeks. A recent NASA map has shown freezing temperatures reaching lows of minus 30 degrees Fahrenheit in northern and central states.

In Oregon, violent storms have caused damage to trees, resulting in numerous road and highway closures; while Texas has gotten an entire year’s worth of snow in only 15 hours.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across Instagram. It has so far received over 10.6 million views and more than 763,000 likes on the platform.

One user, film, commented: “OKAY NOW I WANT TO SEE YOU BREAK THAT TOWEL WHILE IT’S STILL FROZEN OR TRY SQUISH IT SOMEHOW.” And unknownuser posted: “Now put a towel on top of your towel to stop the towel [from] freezing.”

Alfie Forrest wrote: “Don’t need to defrost your windscreen but you’re going to get hella scratched drying off.” And Jared added: “I like him well it worked but I’d be too worried it would freeze to the window or break the window somehow.”

Another user, Diamond Julz, posted: “I remember those days so well, my nana would put clothes on the washing line outside when we had this weather, and when she went to get them in the morning they were frozen solid, I’m talking jumpers, shirts, trousers the lot.”
