A pet owner has melted hearts on social media after sharing a sweet clip of their tiny bunnies napping together that quickly went viral online.

In the viral video, shared on Instagram in October, under the username sweetroserabbitry, the week-old Holland Lops can be seen napping in a fluffy blanket, surrounded by toy carrots, holding each other with their tiny paws as they sleep.

The heartwarming clip comes with a caption that says: “Precious one-week old Holland Lops.” The poster is documenting their growth in her profile, as well as their other bunnies, which are a few weeks older than the ones featured in the clip.

While dogs and cats remain top choices for Americans, rabbits and bunnies are also among the most popular pets in the United States, with around 3 million of them being kept as pets, according to pet care experts at PetKeen.

The current most popular rabbit in the country is the mini rex, followed by the Netherland dwarf. But while rabbits are the third most popular pet choice, they are also the third most abandoned pet across the country. It is also estimated that around 80 percent of rabbits that are bought for Easter die or are abandoned within the first year of ownership.

PetKeen’s website says: “Many abandoned rabbits are released into the wild, which is incredibly dangerous and almost always results in the rabbits dying. Other rabbits are donated to shelters. Domesticated rabbits do not have the experience and skills to survive on their own.

“They must be cared for by humans since they cannot survive by themselves. In most areas, it is illegal to release a domesticated rabbit into the wild.”

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across Instagram. It has so far received over 241,298 views on the platform.

One user, _vody, commented: “STOP IT THE CARROT.” And jenlblakely said: “Oh my heart.” luluearheart wrote: “A bunny is a delightful habit; no home is complete without a rabbit.”

Another user, beachhousebites, commented: “Gosh I wish you lived next to us in CA!!! They are sooo cute.” And nena2u said: “Omgoodness!!! I want 100 bunnies now! they are super adorable!”
