Feb. 2—VALDOSTA — More rain is on the way for South Georgia, a meteorologist said Thursday.

The region will have a brief warming spell as the weekend approaches, said Israel Gonzales, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Tallahassee, Fla., office.

A warm front is powering the initial warmup, but it will soon give way to a low pressure system moving in from the west, Gonzales said.

“(The low) should bring rain and breezy conditions Sunday,” he said.

Valdosta’s high temperatures at the end of the week are expected to climb to the low 70s by Saturday, the weather service forecast shows, followed by decline to the upper 50s by Tuesday. Similarly, the city’s overnight lows will climb as high as high as 50 before dropping off to the upper 30s by Tuesday, the forecast said.

Sunny skies will prevail both before and after the weekend rain, the forecast shows.

Gonzales said about one to one and a quarter inches of rain will be possible, as well as breezes around 15 mph Sunday, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Chances of severe weather in the area are “fairly minimal,” he said.
