Neighbor’s Dog’s Has ‘Most Wholesome’ Reaction To Owner Returning From Work

At around the same time every week day, a dog in Kane Wolfe’s neighborhood starts to bark. It always makes him smile.

In fact Wolfe, who is from Atlanta, told followers on TikTok it’s the “most wholesome part of my day.” He made the admission in a video in which a dog can be heard barking away while Wolfe looks on, smiling.

According to the clip, he first noticed a few months back that around the same time his neighbor comes home from work, he heads straight out into the garden with his dog. They chase a ball around and the dog “barks a lot.” Though he’s never spoken to his neighbor, this daily routine has never failed to put a smile on his face.

“I’m sure some folks think the barking is a nuisance but given the context it makes me happy for them,” Wolfe told Newsweek. “It must be cool to get home and lil dude is excited to see you! I used to work a corporate job so I know they both probably need some outside time.”

Wolfe deduced that the dog’s barks were likely the result of its excitement at seeing its owner again. Another day he caught a glimpse of them running around together.

Though it’s only a passing moment, the footage serves as a reminder of the unique power dogs possess to boost our mood while also reducing feelings of anxiety. It’s one of the chief reasons many people choose to own a dog, and was previously explored in a 2019 study published in the journal Animals.

As part of the research, a group of students was asked to either watch videos of a dog or interact directly with a canine. Researchers measured their mood and anxiety levels before and after.

The results indicated those who participated experienced a reduction in anxiety alongside an improvement in their mood.

Wolfe does not own a dog but considers himself “a dog person” and loves to go on walks with friends who have them. “Hearing it does make me wish I had a dog sometimes, it certainly seems like they have a good time after a long day of work,” he said.

He’s not alone in that respect, either, with many echoing similar sentiments after the clip was posted to social media. “We hear our neighbor’s dog upstairs get the zoomies. They apologize, but it’s such a happy thing to hear,” one user wrote.

“I wish more people understood that dogs bark and going out back is the best part of both our days,” a second said, while a third commented: “Every night at around the same time, my neighbors dogs get the zoomies. We live in a townhouse, so I can feel them shake the walls. I LOVE it.”

A fourth added: “We love good doggos having good days and a bonus when it makes your day good.”

Wolfe has been surprised by the video’s popularity but is glad he’s not alone in enjoying these kinds of moments. “I didn’t imagine that people would just listen to a dog bark that long but I’m glad they enjoy it,” he said.
