Owner Discovers Why Puppies Are Really Quiet: ‘Silence Screams Trouble’

Many parents say they need eyes in the back of their heads when looking after young children. That may also ring true for puppy owners.

One woman has recently shared online what it means when her boxer puppies are being too quiet. While silence can mean peaceful, it was far from the reality in this case. Instead, Paddy, Winnie and Tommy were up to no good.

In a TikTok video, the owner walks into the puppies’ room to find they have destroyed their beds and pulled all of the green stuffing out of them. The caption reads: “They are having a party.”

Viewers were hardly shocked by the video, since they are all too familiar with such situations.

The hashtag “destructive dog” has racked up over 22 million views on TikTok, and thousands of videos show dogs destroying furniture. It seems that cushions and sofa padding can be much more entertaining than toys.

The video was shared to a page dedicated to the pups, @paddywinnieandtommy, and so far has over 57,000 views and more than 500 likes.

“Silence is always so loud,” said one user. Another agreed: “Silence screams trouble.”

“Yup, know this all too well!” said a third commenter.

A fourth said: “They’re not even embarrassed by their actions or remorseful.”

Pet owners need to put an end to a biting and chewing problem before it’s too late. The Humane Society of the United States says that dogs “explore the world with their mouths” but must learn what is up for grabs and what isn’t. Otherwise, the owner may come home frequently to damaged goods.

The following tips have been provided by the nonprofit society, which focuses on animal welfare:

  1. Keep your belongings out of your dog’s reach.
  2. Give your dog toys that are clearly distinguishable from household goods.
  3. Supervise your dog until it is trusted enough to sit alone without chewing on inappropriate items. This may be done by keeping it on a leash in the house or crate training.
  4. Provide plenty of mental and physical stimulation.
  5. If your puppy is teething, try freezing a rubber toy. The cold rubber will soothe its gums.
  6. Don’t chase puppies if they have one of your belongings, as they will think it’s a game.

Looking after a puppy can be frustrating, but it’s crucial for owners to avoid punishing their dog because it doesn’t work. Instead, positive reinforcement methods are more effective. For example, train them to give back your belongings for a treat.

“Scolding or pulling things out of your dog’s mouth can cause behavior issues to develop,” the Humane Society says.
