Pet owners are all too familiar with the problem of pet fur on their clothes or furniture, which is why picking the right fabrics can go a long way.

Pet-proofing the house and your wardrobe can be a tedious process. Many people might avoid black clothes since that color is a magnet for fur. White rugs should be avoided since dirty paws could ruin them after one walk. But there might be a simpler way going forward when picking out fabrics. A pet owner has finally found the perfect way to determine what fabrics would work with her two cats and dog.

In a February 27 TikTok video, Madison Wampler, known on TikTok as @mmwampler, showed the benefit of trying out swatches before committing to a fabric for her couch, seeing which one would show the least amount of fur.

The two cats and dog were sitting in a circle next to the fabric swatches. One by one the owner picked up a sample, rubbed it up against each pet’s fur, and looked at the result.

It was sweet this owner decided to get her pets help in choosing a material because after all, it is their house too. However, one of her felines soon tired of being part of the decision-making process and walked off.

The hilarious TikTok clip had quickly reached over 1.1 million views, 88,200 likes, and 187 comments as of Monday. Viewers were both impressed with the idea and cracking up at the results.

“Orange cat said, ‘That’s enough. Just choose one,'” commented one viewer.

Another said: “Team meeting. Teamwork makes the dream work.”

Since it’s dang near impossible to keep fur off every piece of furniture, one viewer recommended a different approach.

“Try also to test how easily it is to get the hair off too since it’s unavoidable to have no hair on the couch,” they said.

A general rule of thumb, according to television network HGTV, which specializes in programming on home improvement, is to avoid velvet, suede, open-weave fabrics and silk. These are an open invitation for cats, and sometimes dogs, to dig their claws in and they also they attract fur. Plus, cleaning these specific fabrics might prove more difficult.

Instead, pet owners should look more toward leather, microfiber, canvas, or indoor and outdoor fabrics. Pets are less likely to ruin furniture utilising these fabrics as they can withstand paws and are easy to clean when covered with fur.
