Anyone who has one will know that there’s nothing quite like having a sister, which is why this dog owner couldn’t resist getting a sibling for her dachshund, and they’re already inseparable.

In 2023, Emma Peters, 23, received the ultimate Valentine’s Day surprise from her fiancé when he surprised her with a dachshund puppy, named Hazel. She was the perfect addition to the family, but Peters told Newsweek that it was clear that she “needed a companion.”

By April 2024, the wait was finally over, and the one-year-old pup finally became a big sister to Heidi, the two-month-old dachshund. There was an instant connection between the duo, and now the sisters do everything together – and fortunately for Peters, that includes tiring each other out.

“Hazel has always loved other dogs, specifically other dachshunds, so we knew she needed a sister,” she said. “And with my husband and I working, we didn’t want Hazel to be alone all day. So, we got a second dog, and she’s loved Heidi from the start.”

She continued: “Her and Heidi play together so well and they’re best friends already. They exhaust each other which is nice for us. They are crazy together. We’ve started calling Hazel Ms. Menace and Heidi Ms. Chaos when they are playing really hard.”

After introducing the two pups to one another, Peters shared footage from the adorable moment on the dogs’ dedicated TikTok account (@hazel.bea.weenie). The video delighted many, and it’s already been viewed more than 11.1 million times and gained over 1.1 million likes.

According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), dachshunds are usually good with other dogs and they tend to be open when meeting new people too. They are known for being impeccable watchdogs as they’re always alert and ready for anything, and they tend to be very brave (but can verge on the point of being stubborn at times).

Despite their small bodies and little legs, dachshunds still need plenty of regular exercise to keep them fit and healthy. The AKC recommends two walks a day generally, before returning home and cuddling up with their favorite humans.

It’s safe to say, Hazel and Heidi love being with each other and after seeing how inseparable they are, Peters wouldn’t change a thing. Although one thing’s for sure, and that’s just how exhausting it is to have another puppy in the house. Peters joked that she’s “constantly exhausted” lately, but she knows that it will absolutely be worth it.

Since sharing the videos of Hazel and Heidi together on social media, Peters has been blown away by the outpouring of love for her two dachshunds.

She told Newsweek: “Social media has been so sweet towards them. I love that the video was able to bring people joy. It’s amazing to see how much of an impact these little dogs have, and I love hearing everyone’s personal stories of their sweet dogs.”

Among the 3,300 comments on the viral TikTok post already, many people praised the adorable bond between the sisters. One comment reads: “She’s gonna be the best big sis.”

Another person responded: “When the baby realized she looked the same and they started wagging tails together.”

While another TikToker wrote: “An instant connection.”
