A viral video has surfaced that shows an owner’s way of convincing her dog to walk down the stairs.

The footage shows the moment Suzie Cherryman shouts “are you ready?” to her goldendoodle Toby, who is standing at the top of the staircase.

Cherryman then surprises TikTok users by belting out the theme song of a British TV ad for a cleaning product. She can be heard singing, “Flash, woo, it’s incredible,” before Toby trots down the stairs wagging his tail.

So far, the video has racked up 194,600 views and over 13,000 likes since it was shared on November 20.

Many users are wondering why the Flash All Purpose Cleaner is Cherryman’s jingle of choice. It is likely that Toby has taken an interest in the song because the cleaning product’s brand mascot looks identical to him. It is likely that Toby believes the heroic melody is his very own theme tune.

Do Dogs Like Music?

Psychologist Deborah Wells at Queens University in Belfast, Northern Ireland, has previously exposed dogs in a shelter to different types of music. It turns out dogs do have preferences when it comes to music.

The study published in a Psychology Today article revealed that dogs certainly are listening to music. The results found that heavy metal music caused the dogs to bark as they were agitated. Listening to popular music, or human conversations, didn’t trigger any reactions and dogs acted the same as they did when no sounds were playing.

Classical music seemed to be a game changer as it had a calming effect on the dogs and researchers realized that barking reduced in the shelter. The dogs also settled down when listening to Edvard Grieg’s “Morning Mood”, Antonio Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons”, and Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy”.

What Do the Comments Say?

So far, more than 140 TikTok users have commented on the video of Toby. It turns out he isn’t the only canine that is motivated by singing.

One user said: “Me singing superman to my Lab to get his harness on.”

Another laughed: “Haha I thought me going ‘ready, steady, go’ was bad enough.”

“My dog only ever responded when fridge door opened,” said another user.

Other comments have dubbed the video as “amazing” and “iconic.”

But not all dogs are a fan of the ad, as one owner said: “My dog growls as soon hears that song on TV. Then sits waiting for the dog to come on to bark at.”
