It’s not uncommon for cat owners to see their pets as their own babies, but it turns out that’s how cats see themselves too!

A black cat called Kobe has left the internet in stitches after his pregnant owner shared a picture of him refusing to leave the nursing chair that she and her husband built for their soon-to-be-born baby boy.

In a post shared on TikTok on Tuesday by the owner, under the username phaedrap, the poster explains: “My favorite thing so far about decorating my babies nursery has been assembling this nursing chair and my cat immediately assuming we have bought it solely for him and sitting in it everyday like a human would.”

A caption reads: “It’s Kobe’s room and we’re just intruding in it.”

A cat owner who’s expecting a baby left the internet in stitches after revealing that his cat thinks that everything in the nursery is for him.

The poster, Phaedra Peer, told Newsweek that Kobe is the sweetest boy in the world, even though he wakes her up every morning at 6 a.m. by aggressively licking her arm, which she says she doesn’t mind.

“He follows me from my room and my friends and family joke that I probably love him more than them, which I decline to comment on,” she said. “He has the loudest purr in the world and he is constantly purring and he loves making cookies.”

Kobe is full of surprises, in fact, according to Peer, he also has a party trick to entertain his humans, which is flipping one ear inside out.

“He likes to watch TV especially David Attenborough. He enjoys sitting through my Peloton bike classes with me, and he also likes to do puzzles with us.”

Peer added that they got “scammed” when they bought Kobe, although it all worked out for the best and they instantly fell in love with him.

“We already have one Bengal and were trying to buy another as we were familiar with the breed but they are quite a bit pricier than other cats. We fell in love with him as soon as we saw him and bought him for an inflated price. His vet recently confirmed he’s not a Bengal. When I asked what type of cat he was, I was told: ‘a black cat,” she said.

Black cats are statistically about 50 percent less likely to be adopted than other cats, and according to Psychology Today, there are three main reasons behind this.

One is that many people think black cats are less friendly than others, although this claim has no scientific basis, and every black cat owner will swear their kitty is the sweetest in the world.

Another main reason is superstition, as black cats have long been associated with bad luck, even though this is also just a myth. And last but not least, some people avoid adopting black cats because they feel that they’re not able to read their emotions.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 121,900 views and 17,500 likes on the platform.

One user, Penefold, commented: “Welp, that’s his chair now, better buy yourself another one.” And Lulubelle79 said: “I bought a new laptop case. It’s now the cats bed, he’s claimed it. Doesn’t matter where you move it to, he’s back on it.”

Khloe added: “I am redecorating my daughter’s bedroom and my cat is watching and inspecting. I think she thinks it’s all for her.”
