A wily peacock continues to elude authorities in Augusta Township Saturday.

Provincial police reported on Twitter that they were close to apprehending the bird but were outfoxed.

“This cunning bird escaped capture from our officers by flying up a tree!” police said.

There was no indication where the bird had escaped from.

A Facebook wag said the bird was  “wanted for flight from an officer.”

Social media would indicate that escaped peacocks aren’t new to Augusta.

Last July, an alert Facebooker noted on the “Augusta is Awesome” page that three of the birds were loose and wandering on rural Skakun Road.

Commenters seemed blasé, referring to the birds as the “community peacocks” and “the new Augusta Township mascots, lol.”

Augusta Township is just east of Brockville on the St. Lawrence River.
