Pet Cam Captures Labrador’s Bizarre Behavior While Home Alone

A dog owner checking in on their yellow Labrador using a pet cam was left stunned by what she saw.

In a video posted to Instagram under the handle nala_nosebest, the pet owner revealed that they saw Nala sitting upright close to the couch, balancing a cuddly toy star on her nose.

It’s an impressive feat and one that might have gone unnoticed had her owner not decided to check in on her at that precise moment. You can watch the footage here:

There might be a valid reason for Nala performing this particular trick though. According to her Instagram page, balancing things on the end of her nose is something Nala has mastered.

The page features images and videos of her balancing everything from a stack of pretzels to a football on the end of her sizable snout.

Perfecting this takes practice and, in some ways, Nala’s decision to practice the trick might be a wise move when left home alone.

That’s certainly the view of Boston-based dog behaviorist Kait Hembree who recommends activities, not entirely dissimilar to the one Nala is engaging in, as a great way of staving off boredom.

“Activities and games that provide mental stimulation are some of the best at-home enrichment options for dogs, but these don’t have to be hard or time-consuming if you have a little creativity and fortitude,” she told Newsweek.

In this sense, Nala’s owner deserves some credit for training the Labrador in this one particular trick. It’s clearly one she enjoys performing and is happy to practice in her leisure time around the house.

Whatever the merits and motivations behind it, the sight of Nala balancing the cuddly star on her nose remained a source of some understandable amusement not just to her owner but to the many thousands who follow the Labrador on Instagram.

Some were quick to voice their approval in the comments section accompanying the clip.

“I like how the dog did it in front of the camera, just in case you wanted to witness his genius,” one viewer commented with another writing: “Her goals are beyond any of our understanding.” A third said “A pawductive day I see” while a fourth claimed she was “practicing for the circus.”

It’s not the first time a dog has been caught on a pet cam doing something unexpected, of course. Earlier this month, an 11-month-old golden retriever called Charlie was busted getting up to no good while his owner was out of the house.

In another instance, the owner of a Staffordshire bull terrier called Hugo was forced to rush home from work after spotting that he had become stuck on the side of the garden and was unable to get through the fence. One dog owner was confronted by the hilarious sight of their dog strutting around the house wearing a cushion cover as a cape.
