Puppy Shows Owner His Latest Discovery at Worst Possible Time

Having a puppy can be hard work, which is why most owners hope for a good night’s sleep at the end of the day. But that wasn’t the case for one TikTok user, who was woken up in the early hours because his dog had discovered a very noisy new toy to play with instead.

TikTok user Darrell Bruce shared the hilarious clip on his TikTok account (@darrellbruce2) on February 4. It shows the annoying wakeup call he received when his Australian cattle dog discovered the amusing game he could play with the simple door stopper. The dog was fascinated by the vibrations and the reverberating sounds it made whenever he put his paw on it, and he simply couldn’t resist doing it again. The only problem for Bruce was that this happened “at 4.30am” on his day off, so it wasn’t quite so entertaining for him.

Unfortunately for many puppy owners, early wakeup calls are commonplace. The American Kennel Club (AKC) says that they haven’t learned to follow their internal body clock yet and just see every moment as another chance to play. However, by following certain guidelines and tips, owners can develop a healthier sleep schedule for their pup, which will hopefully prevent any 4 a.m. starts.

The AKC suggests making the dog’s crate or dog bed an appealing place to be, with blankets and soft toys they can use for comfort. By creating a bedtime routine from the beginning, the pup will adjust to the timings and know where they should go when they’re ready to fall asleep. Owners should also consider restricting their food and water for a few hours prior to bedtime, taking them outside and providing calming cuddles to wind down.

In many ways, puppies are similar to babies as they need a lot of attention, and they may struggle sleeping through the night at first (just ask Bruce). But if they need to go outside during the night, the AKC says you should do so calmly, offer praise in a quiet manner, and then put them back into their sleeping area to continue snoozing until an appropriate time.

While it’s safe to say that Bruce wasn’t so happy with his young pup for waking him up early, TikTok users couldn’t help but laugh about his pet’s cheekiness. Since the video went viral, many people quickly came to the dog’s defense, leading to more than 3,700 comments on the post.

One comment reads: “Well you lit it up for him to find!”

Another person wrote: “He just wants to make sure you know he’s there with you.”
