The Republican National Committee (RNC) has received positive financial news amid continuing concerns about its funds.

According to its latest filing with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), the GOP governing body ended January with more cash on hand than it did at the beginning of the month, increasing its coffers from $8,009,756.84 to $8,711,097.22.

In the period, the RNC received $11,588,008.07 in donations and other sources and spent $10,886,667.69. The report was filed on Tuesday and published on Wednesday.

Newsweek contacted the RNC by email to comment on this story.

It comes amid concerns about the state of the GOP governing body’s finances. The $8 million reported at the beginning of the month represents the party’s lowest fundraising year since 2013.

At the end of November, it also reported its lowest bank balance at that point in any year since 2016, FEC disclosures showed. With $9.96 million in spending money, the RNC had less than half the $21.35 million it reported in 2016 after Donald Trump won the presidential election.

It is this, along with the Republicans losing multiple elections since 2020, that has led to calls for the RNC’s chair, Ronna McDaniel, to resign.

Earlier this month, The New York Times first cited anonymous sources who said the Republican told Trump she would step down after the South Carolina primary later this month. CNN and CBS News were among other publications who reported the news but McDaniel herself has not confirmed it.

“Nothing has changed. This will be decided after South Carolina,” RNC spokesperson Keith Schipper told Newsweek at the time.

If she does resign, her successor is waiting in the wings. Earlier this week, the former president endorsed Lara Trump, the wife of his son Eric Trump, for the role of RNC co-chair. She previously served as an adviser for his 2020 presidential campaign.

“Lara is an extremely talented communicator and is dedicated to all that MAGA stands for,” Trump said in a statement. “She has told me she wants to accept this challenge and would be GREAT!”

Lara Trump told Newsmax that, if she were elected to the position of co-chair, she would ensure that the RNC uses its “every penny” on working to reelect her father-in-law in November.

Trump also endorsed Michael Whatley, North Carolina Republican Party chair, as the next chairman of the RNC.
