A dog’s unusual talent gained her viral attention after she was filmed doing her unique and amusing ear trick.

Dog owner @amberlilly11 on TikTok posted a video of her red cocker spaniel JoJo flicking her ears independently, leaving dog lovers in awe of the seemingly magical ability.

“JoJo has amazing ears! She’s so sweet,” the caption on TikTok read. In a later comment, the owner wrote: “Definitely magic ears. I’ve never seen a dog do this before JoJo.”

But it wasn’t just JoJo’s owner who was obsessed with her interesting party trick as the video gained more than 100,000 views and hundreds of comments.

One user said: “As if dogs aren’t magical enough!” Another viewer praised JoJo’s appearance and wrote: “Jojo is the prettiest girl.”

The American cocker spaniel breed was first recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1878, and today is the 29th most popular breed in the U.S. according to the dog registry.

Gentle and good with families, the cocker spaniel’s distinctive floppy ears are a trademark of the breed and hide a special talent.

Thanks to genetics, they can move their ears independently. A common characteristic among the breed, it enables them to access various sounds and assess their surroundings—something that would have been especially important during their early days as dogs designed for hunting.

Amid the comments on the video showcasing JoJo’s extra special party trick, people shared some hilarious theories about how her ears were moving so impressively. “A ghost is messing with your dog. Embarrassing her like that,” joked one viewer. Others were genuinely curious, with one TikToker asking: “How does that work?!”

Fellow dog owner Ellena revealed a shared experience and said: “I used to have two spaniels that did this. I called it ‘the floopity ears.’ Thank you for sharing.”

Holley agreed, writing: “Our cocker spaniel does the same! We call it flicky ears.”

Prone to ear infections, owners of cocker spaniels should always be on the lookout for any unusual behavior around their dog’s ears. Frequent head shaking or rubbing ears on surfaces could be a sign that something is wrong and warrant a trip to the vet.

Frequent checkups with a vet are also important to ensure their overall well-being. Common ear problems in cocker spaniels include ear infections, excessive wax buildup, itchiness, head shaking, redness of the ear canal, and an unpleasant smell.
