As a preventive measure, staff will ensure increased vigilance throughout the week and the police department will maintain close collaboration with the school administration,” said Viau.

In a statement, the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) said students at several high schools at various Ottawa school boards have seen the shooting threats on social media.

“The messages are generic in nature. The Ottawa Police Service was notified immediately by the CECCE and assessed the risk as low, recommending that schools continue to operate as usual. As always, the safety and well-being of every student is a priority for the board.” The board said parents are invited to discuss this issue with their child and that social workers are available to students if necessary.
