Country singer Sam Hunt is known for keeping his personal life under wraps. However, during an interview on the Taste of Country Nights, On Demand podcast, he opened up about a controversial rule he enforces at home, particularly when it comes to marital arguments.
When questioned if he’s ever had to spend nights on the couch, the 39-year-old responded with a rule he holds firm in his household. “One thing about my wife is that she forgives quickly,” Hunt shared, acknowledging past mistakes including a DUI and instances of infidelity.
“And I also have a rule — that I’m not sleeping on the couch,” adding, “She’s gonna have to shoot me before I don’t sleep in my own bed.”

Hunt’s wife, Hannah Lee Fowler, initially filed for divorce in February 2022. The couple reconciled before the birth of their first child in May 2022, deciding to remain together and calling off the divorce. They now have two young children, Lucy Louis, who is almost 2, and Lowry Lee, 6 months.
Despite these challenges, Hunt disclosed that his wife isn’t particularly moved by his musical career or celebrity status, which he accepts as grounding.
“As men, we need somebody in our life to keep our feet on the ground,” the “Body Like A Back Road” singer explained.
The country music star reflected on a turbulent few years that culminated in a DUI in 2019 when he decided to drive home after a night out with friends while his wife was out of town. Hunt apologized on X (formerly Twitter) for his actions, saying in a post, “Wednesday night I decided to drive myself home after drinking at a friend’s show in downtown Nashville. It was a poor and selfish decision and I apologize to everyone who was unknowingly put at risk and let down by it. It won’t happen again.”
This incident inspired his recent song, “Locked Up,” which is the leading track of his new EP bearing the same name, but it is not a direct recount of what actually happened in Hunt’s situation.
“It may seem autobiographical if you connect the dots, but, you know, I made a point not to go into the details in the song about my story. So I tried to zoom it out and make it more relatable so it feels more like it’s about making a big mistake, or messing up, and having your significant other stick with you through that,” the “Make You Miss Me” singer recounted.
