A video of a service dog appearing elated to greet a Pluto Disney character on a cruise ship has gone viral on TikTok.
The moment was captured during a journey with the Disney Cruise Line in Cape Canaveral, Florida, according to the post shared by @radiantlygolden. The video, which was taken aboard the Disney Wish vessel, according to a later comment from the poster, has had 1.3 million views since it was first posted.
A message overlaid on the video says: “My service dog being reunited with his favorite character on our Disney Cruise.”
The footage shows a person dressed as Pluto approaching the dog who is holding a toy in his mouth. The dog is seen playing with Pluto, wagging his tail and rolling around on the ground while receiving cuddles and belly rubs.
A caption shared with the post reads: “Proof that distance won’t keep the very best of friends apart.”
The dog’s bonding moment with the Pluto character comes as no surprise because “dogs can form relationships of comparable qualities with both humans and other dogs,” according to a March 2019 study published in Scientific Reports, and “these relationships vary along multiple components across different partners.”
Stanley Coren is a professor emeritus in the department of psychology at the University of British Columbia and the author of several books about dogs.
In a February 2013 article for Psychology Today, Coren wrote: “Dogs that have been properly socialized will congenially approach virtually anything that is alive, regardless of its species, and, unless they receive hostile signals, they will attempt to establish a good-natured relationship.”
“Although dogs are happiest when they are in a social situation, the species that they are interacting with is less important than the quality of the interactions,” he added.
‘Beyond Precious’
TikTokers were delighted by the Disney cruise reunion in the viral video.
Burg Face wrote, “…this is beyond precious” and DisneyDarlin_Travel posted, “Crying happy tears.”
Rachel Ashley said: “All I do on this app is cry but this is happy crying. I just cannot with the cuteness overload.”
Cera Boyle wrote: “omg…. Pluto is having the time of his life” and FaKup617 commented, “Pluto understood the assignment.”
Lizard6742 said: “Doggo knew Pluto was 100 percent friend shaped.”
Itsmemissshabre noted: “He’s the happiest boy around.”
Super Kiwi Bean said: “That is so adorable, I bet it made the worker’s day too.”
Alyssa_53 agreed, writing,”I just know the actor under the costume was having the best day ever.”
