Barbara Corcoran, who has celebrated 36 years of marriage with her husband Bill Higgens, revealed that the key to their enduring and vibrant relationship lies in their unconventional choice to sleep in separate bedrooms.
On Thursday, March 28, Barbara appeared on an episode of Today, where she disclosed that the cornerstone of her “fun” marriage revolves around the practice of sleeping in “separate bedrooms.”
“I’ve had a separate bedroom with Bill for like 40 years,” the entrepreneur told host Jenna Bush Hager. “I have to invite him in — he invites me in occasionally.”
While untraditionally, Barbara elaborated that it contributes to the “sexiness” of their relationship, while also mitigating unnecessary arguments.

“He puts piles of stuff everywhere and I am very neat so I couldn’t sleep well at night,” she shared. “Now, I sleep like a baby.”
This isn’t the only unconventional aspect of their marriage — Barbara also shared some backstory about their relationship. She disclosed that she was the one who proposed to her husband. “I wanted to get a husband so I said, ‘What the heck!'” the Shark Tank judge quipped.
While not discussed during her appearance on Today, there might be another motive behind Barbara and her husband’s decision to sleep separately. In November 2023, she shared a photo of herself seated on her bed, wearing a CPAP machine mask, which was recognized for its assistance in managing breathing difficulties and snoring during sleep.
“Told Bill I had a surprise tonight. This isn’t what he was hoping for. 😂,” she joked in the caption.
