Santa Claus is full steam ahead with checking his list twice as Christmas quickly approaches, and one dog is making sure he is not left out.
In a Wednesday TikTok video posted to the account @ayserebecca, a 3-year-old pug mix named Gideon was seen “FaceTiming” Santa Claus.
He wanted to let Santa know he was no longer at the Mill House Animal Sanctuary in Sheffield, England, after Ayse Ruddiforth and her family adopted him in August. And rightfully so—he deserves to have Santa deliver all the Christmas presents and dog treats in the world after living in the shelter.
Ruddiforth had two shih tzus named Boo and Monty who died last year. She didn’t think she could get another dog after having those two by her side and the family’s for the past 15 years.
When she finally had the strength to clean out their belongings, she donated food and other items to the Mill House Animal Sanctuary. She asked about volunteering and walking the dogs at the shelter.
“I returned the following week and took Gideon for a walk,” Ruddiforth told Newsweek. “I instantly bonded with him and really wanted to take him home with me. However, my husband, Lewis, had stated on several occasions that under no circumstances were we getting another dog.”
Isn’t that what they all say?
Ruddiforth and her daughter continued to go back and walk the dogs at the shelter, always hoping to be the ones to walk Gideon. They learned the dog had a few people interested in adopting him, but that never happened.
Eventually, her husband got to meet Gideon, and he too fell in love. Again, he was hesitant about bringing home a new dog, but eventually caved and called the shelter himself to inquire about adopting Gideon.
As soon as they came home from holiday, they brought Gideon with them, and the rest is history.
Gideon immediately started running around his new home, all “giddy” and excited. The first night he did cry, and it took him a few months to learn his routine, but Ruddiforth said he has settled in nicely. He follows her everywhere as if he were part of the family his whole life. Instead of sitting on the opposite side of the couch as he used to, he now snuggles up with them.
As for making the naughty or nice list, Ruddiforth is confident about where Gideon will land.
“He will definitely be on the nice list,” she said. “He is such a lovely, loving little dog.”
