Many people dread the thought of running into their ex, but for these two sisters that fear has been intensified after learning that their parents still hire their former boyfriends to look after the dogs whenever they go on vacation.

When Kirsten Andrews, 22, was dating her boyfriend in the past, her parents would often ask him to dog-sit at their San Francisco home whenever they went away, especially since the dogs were used to him and the family knew him well. But as it turns out, when Andrews and her boyfriend split, the arrangement continued—and it’s not just her ex who the parents have been hiring.

During a family dinner, Andrews and her younger sister, Nicole, learned that both of their ex-boyfriends have dog-sat for their parents in the past, even after the breakups. Andrews can sort of rationalize it, as she told Newsweek that she understands “it’s easy money,” but she still wasn’t delighted by the news.

Andrews said: “My parents tend to hire mine and my sister’s exes for dog-sitting every time they go on vacation. Originally, when my sister and I were dating our boyfriends, they both picked up shifts at my mother’s business, Stage House Interiors. They then began watching the dogs when my parents would leave town, even after the relationships ended.

Kirsten Andrews was horrified to learn that her parents hire her ex-boyfriend to look after the dogs whenever they go away. The news came as a huge surprise to both sisters, who were equally unhappy…

“My parents claim it’s easy and that the boys already know the animals. Sometimes, my ex even dog-sits for my best friend’s family, as her mother is a co-founder of the business with my mom.”

It’s become such a regular occurrence that the ex-boyfriends have been asked to dog-sit around three times since the breakups happened. Indeed, when Nicole told her parents about the split, her mom was quick to ask: “Who is going to watch the dogs now?”

But that certainly didn’t stop them, as Nicole’s ex was most recently watching the dogs when her parents traveled to Texas to watch the eclipse—and the sisters had no idea at the time.

“While in Austin to watch the eclipse, we learned that Nicole’s ex was watching the dogs with zero warning, and I learned that my ex was watching my best friend’s dogs. Nicole pretends that it’s fine, however, we’ve discussed it a lot, so maybe it’s not fine,” Andrews continued.

So baffled by the unusual situation, Andrews shared a video about it on TikTok (@kirstenra2002), joking that “unfortunately, this is real.” Since it was posted on April 7, the video has already been viewed over 1 million times and gained more than 137,400 likes.

After posting about it on social media, Andrews was astonished by the overwhelming response she received.

She told Newsweek: “The social media reaction has been insane. I had no TikTok followers before, but then it just started blowing up. It started getting a few likes every second, to the point where whenever I opened my TikTok account it had over 99 notifications.

“I think the best part of the experience has been the comments because they are so funny and out of pocket to read. If my ex sees the video or this, I didn’t know it was going to blow up like this.”

Although the sisters were horrified by what they learned, the video has amused plenty of TikTok users and it’s already gained over 200 comments. Many people found the situation hilarious, while others added that they have the same problem.

One comment reads: “Well glad to know it’s not only my parents.”

Another TikTok user wrote: “I am literally screaming!”

While another person commented: “Me watching this while petsitting my ex’s dogs.”
