One of the most famous girl groups in history, the Spice Girls, reunited for a surprise performance, sending fans into a frenzy.

The British group who rose to fame in the 1990s came back together for Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice’s 50th birthday. The other members of Spice Girls were also in attendance, Geri Horner (formerly Halliwell), Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown and Melanie Chisholm.

They partied with plenty of famous faces in London including Victoria’s husband and former England soccer captain, David Beckham.

It was David who captured the exciting moment the women reunited to dance to one of their biggest hits, “Stop.” The five former pop stars showed they still remembered the famous choreography to the 1998 song which debuted at number two on the United Kingdom’s music charts.

“I mean come on x,” David captioned the video which he shared to Instagram.

Victoria Beckham reshared the video to her own Instagram and wrote, “Best night ever! Happy Birthday to me! I love you all so much! #SpiceUpYourLife.” The hashtag refers to the lead single from the band’s sophomore album, Spiceworld. “Stop” was the third single from the album.

The surprise performance led to many speculating and pleading for an official reunion by the group, including a potential headlining performance at the summer English music festival, Glastonbury, which attracts about 200,000 music lovers every year.

Even BBC Radio presenter and TV personality, Clara Amfo, requested their presence there.

“Can we have a word about transporting this to Glastonbury please? Thanks in advance! X” Amfo wrote on David’s Instagram post.

In fact, bookmaking service Coral has slashed the odds of an official reunion in 2024, a Glastonbury performance and new album in 2025, after David posted the video of them dancing together. birthday bash performance, per the BBC.

The Spice Girls became a global sensation when their debut single “Wannabe” debuted in 1996 and they would go on to be one of the biggest pop bands of their time. They became known for the feisty characters and promoting their brand of feminism known as “Girl Power.”

Newsweek even described them at the time as the “biggest British export since the Beatles.”

“Music execs have long assumed that young girls, the biggest record buyers, swoon over boys. But kids, both male and female, have been ignited by the Spice Girls’ sexy chutzpah, their cheeky deflating of presumptive (male) authority (in ‘Say You’ll Be There” they demand romantic equality or ‘I guess I’ll have to show you the door”),” Newsweek reporter Jack Kroll wrote in 1997.

“This breezy but firm assertiveness seems to chime with the mood in a Britain that has just shown the torpid Tories [British Conservatives] the door. The Spice Girls project self-confidence and fun, cutting through the funless fog of [then Prime Minister] John Major’s Britain.”

Major was the Conservative prime minister of Britain from 1990 to 1997.

Horner left the band in 1998 before they split for good three years later. They reunited however, for a performance at the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Four of the members reformed to do a live concert tour of Europe in 2019, but Victoria Beckham did not participate.
