Eating bread crusts is not for everyone, but cutting them off every time can be a pain. After years of making sandwiches for her son, a mom was shocked to discover that her partner had the perfect method for cutting the crusts off quickly.
In a hilarious clip shared on TikTok on Monday by @jessrosalia, the woman’s partner can be seen cutting the crusts from her son’s toast using a pizza cutter, making the process a lot faster and easier than using a simple knife.
A caption explains: “When you’ve been a mom for 4 years making toast and your son’s stepdad just changes the whole cutting crusts game.”
The poster told Newsweek: “I’m heavily pregnant and so he was helping out cleaning the kitchen and on breakfast duties for the morning. When he was putting the dishes away, my son said he wanted toast. We had pizza the night before, and he saw the pizza cutter and decided to give it a try.”
She also explained that every time they leave the crust on his toast and sandwiches, her son will only have two bites, which leaves him hungry and leads to a lot more food waste.
“We’ve always cut the crust but found it was a lot easier than a butter knife. My son was also super excited about it and even tried it himself this morning on his toast as he’s in the phase of wanting to help with everything he can haha!” she added.
While crusts may not appeal to everybody’s taste, they may actually be the best part of the bread in terms of nutritional value.
A study by the American Chemical Society found that as unpleasant as some may find it, the crust part of the bread is actually rich in antioxidants and may provide stronger health benefit than the rest of the bread.
The video quickly went viral on TikTok, so far garnering over 2.6 million views and 42,500 likes.
One user, Scorpia, commented: “Nah, they eating the edges or nothing at all.”
TikToker Nikki said: “No but why not cut the edges first before putting the spread.”
While many users complained about the food waste associated with cutting crusts off toast, one of them came up with a perfect solution to make everyone happy: “Cut off the crusts before and make breadcrumbs out of them,” @Aryane.s04 said.
