Stephen King Takes Aim at Donald Trump’s Legal Woes

While he’s best known for being a critically acclaimed horror author, Stephen King has also gained a reputation for his political posts on social media.

Now he has taken aim at Donald Trump’s legal woes in response to a post from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, in which she called out President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden.

The House Oversight Committee has launched investigations into Hunter Biden’s foreign business deals and is investigating whether Joe Biden committed an impeachable offense by aiding in the deal.

This month, the committee subpoenaed the younger Biden and James Biden, the president’s brother. Hunter Biden agreed to testify before the committee as long as his testimony was public, but the committee denied his request for an open hearing on December 13, when he is slated to appear for a closed-door deposition.

Now Greene, a MAGA Republican and a Trump loyalist, has criticized Hunter Biden on X, formerly Twitter, writing: “Hunter Biden isn’t used to following rules or the law, but there is no circumventing @RepJamesComer’s subpoena for a transcribed interview. Hunter Biden doesn’t get to dictate @GOPOversight’s investigation. See you soon.”

In classic King fashion, he wasn’t going to let a chance to criticize the former president pass him by, as well as an opportunity to imply that Greene is hypocritical.

Newsweek reached out to representatives for King, Greene, Trump and President Biden for comment via email Wednesday.

He shared Greene’s post and added: “You know who isn’t used to following rules of law? Donald Trump. 91 counts of breaking those laws. Count ’em, 91.”

This is in reference to the fact that as he seeks a second term in the White House, Trump is facing more than 90 criminal charges stemming from four separate criminal indictments, two at the state level and two federal.

Among his ongoing legal battles, Trump is facing Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act charges in Fulton County, accused of attempting to overturn his 2020 election loss in Georgia, a key swing state that tipped to President Biden by a slim margin, helping assure his victory.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges and has claimed that the case, as he has with all his other cases, is an effort to interfere with the 2024 election. Trump holds a substantial lead in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.

This isn’t the first time that King and Greene have butted heads online.

On November 5, the author called out the Georgia representative for posting false information amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.

Hamas led a surprise attack on Israel on October 7, saying it was retribution for worsening conditions for Palestinians under Israeli occupation. Israel declared war on Hamas and launched hundreds of airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, followed by extensive ground operations.

At least 1,200 people were killed in Israel, with many hostages taken, and The Associated Press has reported that more than 12,700 Palestinians have been killed so far, citing the Hamas-run Health Ministry.

The Republican has long been vocal about her opposition to sending military aid to the Israelis, long-time U.S. allies. She posted to X in late October, saying that she would be “voting NO on all funding packages for the Ukraine war (as I have from the beginning) and now the Israel war.”

Then she posted on November 5: “Israel is literally dominating in their war with Hamas after being brutally attacked killing thousands of innocent people, and not one single American dollar has been spent on that war yet. Just think about that.”

Plenty of people were quick to correct her, including King, who wrote: “Are you tripping? We’ve given them aid and armaments for decades.”

The conflict between the two didn’t end there. On November 8, the horror writer told Greene to do some “real work” after she shared a video of her appearance on The Benny Show podcast. In the clip, Greene discussed the resolution she filed that would censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib—the only Palestinian-American in Congress—over her criticism of Israel.

Greene has accused Tlaib of inciting an insurrection at the Capitol building after a rally was held that called for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war.

She has compared the rally to the insurrection that took place on January 6, where a mob of Donald Trump supporters attacked the Capitol building two months after his presidential defeat. Unlike this event, Tlaib and others who took part in the rally did not break into the building.

King was quick to criticize her comment, posting to X: “Oh, do some real work for a change. Stop fulminating.”
