A woman has shared how she extended a helping hand to a stranger in need at a concert in Columbia, South Carolina.

“This is what womanhood is about,” Liz Smith said, in a video recounting the night’s events.

During the R&B Only concert on January 20, Smith recounted, she encountered the young woman alone in a vulnerable state.

“I saw her in the bathroom throwing up and started making sure she was ok,” Smith told Newsweek.

Though they were complete strangers, Smith felt the need to ensure the girl’s safety. When she asked to be taken to her car, Smith went even further.

“I didn’t feel comfortable leaving her alone in her vehicle in a parking garage so I drove her to a nearby hotel,” she explained.

Once they arrived at the hotel, she said she made sure the woman got into a room and left messages on her phone, letting her know what had happened—and what time breakfast was.

“From the time I met her, I felt like I needed to take care of her and make sure she was ok. It’s just my nature to want to take care of people,” Smith explained.

The next morning, the grateful young woman reached out to Smith, expressing her heartfelt thanks for all of her help.

Statistics show that women ultimately feel more vulnerable when out at night than their male counterparts. Some 53 percent of women in the U.S. said that they felt fear when walking alone at night, according to a 2023 Gallup survey. About a quarter of male adults (26 percent) said the same.

After the event, Smith shared what happened on her TikTok page @koolsheeb, where it has been viewed 2.2 million times and prompted thousands of comments.

“I literally love this so much,” said one commenter.

While another said: “This made me emotional. I love women.”

“You’re amazing,” agreed another TikToker. “A girls girl! You protected her and made sure she got home safely.”

“You deserve so many blessings,” said one viewer. “It’s so rare to meet girls who are like this omg.”

Smith said that she hopes sharing on TikTok could inspire others to offer help to other people in their time of need.

“I thought it was a positive thing to share,” she said. “I’m hopeful that it will inspire others to go out of their way to help people, especially those that are vulnerable.”

“I am happy that it was met with positive comments,” Smith added. “It makes me happy to spread love.”
