Stray Dog Has the Zoomies After Just 2 Days in Rescuer’s Home

A dog who used to live on the streets in New York City quickly made herself comfortable in no time while at home with her foster parent.

The foster parent known on TikTok as @foodtastetester1 decided to take in a rescue after the original foster family could no longer keep Daisy, the cattle dog. However, the move from one foster to the next didn’t bother the dog.

A TikTok video, which was posted to the social media platform on December 16, showed Daisy with her new foster.

Daisy, only at her foster’s home for two days, kept jumping up on her foster mom’s bed with a smile plastered on her face even after she was put back on the ground. She must’ve thought it was a game because she kept doing it when the zoomies kicked in.

In the video, the dog can be seen going full-on cyclone mode, spinning around the floor at rapid speed. There is no denying she is happy being off the streets, but she still needs her forever home.

Daisy’s foster mom wrote in the video’s comment section that she would’ve kept the dog longer if she could, but her cat was coming back from urgent care after a deadly blockage and perineal urethrostomy, which means he would need her attention as he heals. And being a cattle dog who is high in energy, it would have been too much to handle both.

The foster brought Daisy to the Animal Cares Center of NYC. But now, Daisy is with Remember Me Rescue out on Long Island, New York, an employee of the Animal Cares Center confirmed with Newsweek.

Meanwhile, Daisy’s future family will need to be prepared for two things: her energy and fear. Her foster mom mentioned in a follow-up TikTok video that Daisy’s breed is known to be high-energy and that the family who adopts Daisy must be active, giving her daily exercise and a place to run.

The future family must also be patient to work through Daisy’s fear since it’s believed she experienced some abuse before she was found, although that is not confirmed.

Newsweek reached out to @foodtastetester1 via TikTok for additional comment.

“If she’s got zoomies after two days she’s happy!” one user commented.

Another added: “There’s nothing quite like new home zoomies.”

Others demanded the foster mom to let Daisy on the bed: “That’s a bed dog, ma’am. You got yourself a bed dog. I have two. Welcome to the pet hair club.”

U.S. Shelter Numbers

Each year, 6.3 million pets enter U.S. shelters, which is an average of 17,260 a day, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The number of dogs and cats taken in by pet shelters hit 46,807 during January 2023, an increase of 1,744 compared with January 2022, the 24Pet ‘Shelter Watch Report’ found.

Around 920,000 surrendered animals are euthanized every year. Shelters are striving to minimize euthanasia rates by promoting adoption campaigns, spaying and neutering programs, and behavior rehabilitation.
