Meghan Markle’s Suits co-star, Gina Torres, gave an awkward insight into the duchess’ relationships with her former colleagues on the Golden Globes red carpet on Sunday, revealing that they don’t have her cell phone number.

Torres, who played Jessica Pearson in the hit legal drama, which made Meghan a household name between 2011 and 2018, attended the Golden Globes on January 7, where she reunited with fellow co-stars Gabriel Macht, Patrick Adams and Sarah Rafferty to present the award for Best Drama Series.

Walking the red carpet before the event, Torres was stopped by Variety and asked about reuniting with her former colleagues.

“Did you plan this, are you all texting each other,” the carpet host asked, to which Torres responded: “Well, when it all came through we were all texting each other, yes, our text thread is insane right now. So it’s very exciting.”

When asked “who texted Meghan and said ‘you’ve got to come to the Golden Globes Meghan Markle,” Torres revealed: “We don’t have her number.”

“We just don’t,” she added. “She’ll see. She’ll watch. She’ll be happy that we’re here.”

Meghan did not attend the event. Newsweek approached representatives of Gina Torres and Meghan Markle via email for comment.

Footage of the encounter uploaded to Variety‘s TikTok channel prompted a number of social media users to question Torres’ comment.

“Hmmm was she being protective and playful or is that real to not have the number?” wrote one user, with another adding: “Why do I feel like there’s some shade being thrown?? 👀”

The news that the duchess does not appear to be in frequent contact with her former co-stars may come as a surprise after a number of them, including Torres, were included as guests at the royal wedding in May 2018.

Several, including Patrick Adams and Rick Hoffman, have publicly praised the royal in her years since leaving the acting world and her marriage to Prince Harry.

Suits‘ renewed success came in the summer of 2023 when it was added to the Netflix streaming library in the U.S., the platform which also signed a multi-million-dollar content creation deal with Meghan and Harry after their split from the monarchy in 2020.

Suits broke several Nielsen streaming records after its debut on the platform, gaining new fans and sparking speculation that a reboot could be in the works at NBC.

During a red carpet appearance at the Variety Women of Power Gala in November, Meghan (who played paralegal Rachel Zane in Suits) gave a rare interview in which she was asked about the show’s enduring appeal.

The duchess described the recent uptick in popularity as “wild,” and added that she had “no idea” why the show should have struck such a chord with audiences.

“It was great to work on, such a great cast and crew, we had a really fun time,” she said. “I was on it for seven seasons so, quite a bit.”

“It’s hard to find a show you can binge-watch that many episodes of these days, so that could have something to do with it but good shows are everlasting,” she said.
