Taylor Swift Fan’s Concert Emergency Goes Viral

A huge Taylor Swift fan who had an emergency ahead of one of the singer’s concerts was helped out by other fans.

Meredith Ludlam, originally from the U.S. but traveling in Australia, was due to attend one of Swift’s shows in Sydney, which is part of her record-breaking Eras tour.

But just hours before the show at Accor Stadium, Ludlam lost her contact lenses and had no way of getting more in time for the concert. So she reached out to her fellow Swifties—the name of the singer’s fans—on social media for help.

“SYDNEY SWIFTIES I HAVE AN EMERGENCY!! does anyone have one pair of extra contact lenses with a -2.5 prescription. i’ve lost one of my contacts down the drain this morning and no eye doctor will give me an emergency pair without a prescription from a doctor which i can’t get,” Ludlam posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Newsweek contacted Ludlam by Instagram for comment.

Her post went viral, getting more than 753,000 views, and plenty of other Swifties came to the rescue.

Ludlam later posted a photo of herself outside the stadium in Sydney, confirming she’d managed to secure the all-important lenses.

“UPDATE I GOT THE CONTACT,” she wrote.

Fellow Swifties were relieved for her.

“OMG the way this tweet blew up gjfksksk glad it worked out for you,” replied one person.

Another added: “That’s awesome! 💖”

And a third wrote: “I love swifties awhhh im so glad u got them in time!”

Ludlam was not the only fan to face drama at Swift’s Sydney shows, with hundreds of fans needing to be evacuated at her first concert in the city due to nearby lightening strikes.

Part of the stadium was evacuated on Friday, with some on social media saying the lightening was as close as 6 miles away.

“Stay undercover until further notice and follow venue screens and staff instructions,” a post on the stadium’s official X account read. “Stay safe and remember to be kind to those around you.”

The stadium, built for the 2000 Olympic Games, doesn’t have a retractable roof to protect people from the elements.

The concert was due to start at 6.20 p.m with Sabrina Carpenter as the opening act, but it was delayed and Carpenter’s set was eventually scrapped so Swift could start on time.

Despite the drama in Sydney, Swift’s concerts Down Under are going well, including in the southern city of Melbourne, where she played to a record-breaking 96,000 people at each of the three concerts there.
