Amidst the anticipation for Taylor Swift’s latest album, The Tortured Poet’s Department, a supposed leak has sent fans into a frenzy, particularly over a track rumored to be about her beau, Travis Kelce.
An unreleased song titled “The Alchemy” from the 34-year-old singer’s upcoming album reportedly features numerous nods to American football, sparking speculation among Swifties that the song is dedicated to her boyfriend, Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs tight end and recent Super Bowl 2024 champion. Lyrics mentioning touchdowns, winning streaks, and trophies led to a flurry of fan theories online.
“‘The Alchemy’ is clearly about Travis lmao touchdown, greatest in the league, gloves on the bench… ‘Where’s the trophy he just comes running over to me.,” posted one user on X (formerly Twitter). Another fan connected the dots even further, posting, “Alchemy is about something you thought was gold but it’s really not and it has to do with metals and Taylor called Travis’ gesture on his podcast ‘metal as hell’ and i think she’ll write about what love being golden actually feels like once you get out of the alchemy.”

Some Swifties, however, think the song is more about the pop star’s ex, Matty Healy, whom she had a brief fling with in 2023 after her six year relationship with Joe Alwyn ended.
“There’s like one song about Matty. I have no clue why people think the entire album is him… no it’s literally just the alchemy” said one X user. “‘The Alchemy is about Travis” is everyone missing the heroin line? That has Matty written all over it,” remarked another.
Fans continued to put on their detective hats, examining additional lyrics about “beer sticking to the floor,” which further fueled the connection. This could be a nod back to the “Getaway Car” singer’s own Super Bowl appearance where she was seen drinking beer, a habit well-known of her man, Kelce, too. In fact, earlier this month, the 34-year-old NFL star was seen chugging a beer at a New Heights event, amplifying the song’s supposed personal touches.

Another poignant lyric from the leak, mentioning shirts being “off,” might refer to an iconic moment when Jason Kelce, Travis’s brother, celebrated shirtless at a Buffalo Bills game—another game Swift attended.
Swift’s newest album, The Tortured Poet’s Department, is set to be released on April 19.
