The Texas Longhorns will enter the 2024 season, ready to build on their impressive 2023 run. Texas made it to the College Football Playoff before ultimately losing to the Washington Huskies in the semi-finals. It was a return to glory in a way for the Longhorns after multiple tough seasons in a row.

Now armed with that reality, Texas is looking to make its mark on the college football world. This team may not be as good this season, losing multiple key pieces to the NFL Draft. However, they still have star quarterback Quinn Ewers as their starter and he will be looking to continue his success. Last season for Texas, Ewers threw for 3,479 yards and 22 touchdowns with only six interceptions during his junior season.

But the Longhorns also have strong depth at the quarterback position and their backup has a very famous name. Arch Manning will back Ewers this season, potentially giving him a chance to compete for the job next year. However, if Ewers struggles or suffers an injury, Manning would be thrust right into the thick of everything.

Many will know the Manning name from watching Archie, Peyton and Eli in both college and the NFL. He is the nephew of Eli and Peyton. This new Manning has a lot to live up to but has the skills necessary to compete. He got a chance to show what he could do during the Texas spring game and didn’t disappoint.

While Ewers is the clear starter for this Texas squad, it doesn’t hurt to have a capable backup, just in case. Manning made his debut for the Longhorns last season, playing in the third quarter of a blowout over Texas Tech. He completed two passes in his five attempts, throwing for 30 yards.

His performance in the spring game had many people buzzing on social media, giving thought to what he could do on the field. He showed off his arm talent, throwing multiple long touchdowns within.

Once the football season kicks off, Manning may become an afterthought, with Ewers taking over unless he gets a chance to play in the games. But sitting behind Ewers could be exactly what he needs right now. Sometimes, being patient in waiting your turn can pay off well, and for Manning, he just wants a chance to live up to his family name while making his own mark on the game that he loves.
