The Coolest New Tech We’ve Seen

Out in sunny Las Vegas, Nevada, CES 2024 gave us a glimpse at the future of technology, products and services we’ll soon find in our daily lives. It’s a massive show spread across convention centers, casinos, expo centers, and more, all to provide a peek into what the future holds.

This year, Newsweek spent four days at CES to search for the best that the show had to offer. We’ve been digging through press materials, wandering the halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center, and surviving on constant streams of caffeine to give you our list of the coolest stuff from the show floor.

Some of these products will be shipping this year, while others may take a while before the tech gets finalized. Nevertheless, there’s a lot to unpack.

TCL QM89 115-inch TV

Marking one of the biggest televisions to debut at CES, TCL unveiled the QM89, its biggest 4K Mini-LED TV to date. Measuring in at 115 inches, it’s guaranteed to give anything you watch an immersive feel. It boasts up to 5,000 nits of brightness backed by 20,000 local dimming zones for more accurate black levels. It also features quantum dot color, a 6.2.2 Dolby Atmos surround sound system, and a 144Hz refresh rate for gaming.

Samsung S95D QD-OLED TV

Samsung announced its third generation of quantum dot OLED TVs at CES, and the S95D stands out from the rest thanks to one neat trick: it features an anti-glare coating. That means when the sun peeks through and floods your screen, you should have no problem seeing the content that’s playing. Samsung says it uses a specialized hard-coating layer and surface coating pattern to keep content crystal clear, which gives them an edge over the competition. It’s available in sizes up to 77 inches and includes a 4K resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, HDR10, and more, all in a TV that’s 11 mm thin.

Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid

Ever want a Windows laptop and an Android tablet wrapped into one? That’s what you get with the new ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid from Lenovo. The keyboard portion of the laptop has a full Windows 11 PC built into it, complete with the latest Intel Core Ultra processors and lots of RAM and storage. Meanwhile, the display has an Android 13 tablet behind it with a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip and a 3,800mAh battery. You can disconnect the display from the keyboard to use the Android tablet, and you can output the keyboard to a monitor for a traditional Windows desktop. It’s an impressive machine that’s set to go on sale later this year for $1,999.99.

Nanoleaf Outdoor String Lights and Permanent Outdoor Lights

Nanoleaf finally added color-changing outdoor lights to its lineup at CES in the form of Outdoor String Lights and Permanent Outdoor Lights, all to help you jazz up the exterior of your home. They’re equipped with Matter compatibility, which means they work across smart home platforms like Google Assistant, Alexa, Apple Home, and Samsung SmartThings. They integrate directly with Nanoleaf’s app for easy controls and syncing with other Nanoleaf products. There’s no launch date yet, but we should find out soon.

Weber Searwood 600 XL

Weber’s new Searwood series aims to give customers a smart grilling experience at a lower price. The Searwood 600 and 600 XL will let you smoke, grill, and do other normal barbecue things, as well as use it with the lid open. This lets you use griddle inserts for searing things or making tasty smash burgers. It’ll even let you set a flat temperature depending on what you’re grilling for a consistent cook. It’s part of the company’s Connect lineup which gets you remote monitoring over Wi-Fi, free cooking guides, and more. The standard 600 will retail for $899, and the 600 XL will go for $1,199. Both launch this spring.

Philips 5000 Series Wi-Fi Palm Recognition Smart Deadbolt

Philips definitely took “futuristic tech” seriously with the new 5000 Series Wi-Fi Palm Recognition Smart Deadbolt. To unlock, it scans the vein pattern in your palm and unlocks your door. It can store up to 50 different palm images at once. Of course, you can also use PINs or physical keys to unlock, and it’s equipped with Google Assistant and Alexa compatibility. There’s no price or release date just yet.

MSI Titan 18 HX

MSI announced one of the most powerful gaming laptops at the entire show. Called the Titan 18 HX–and sporting a beefy $5,000 price–this laptop is a true behemoth. It comes with an 18-inch Mini-LED 4K display, Intel’s 14th Gen Core i9 processor, Nvidia RTX 4090 graphics, lots of RAM and storage, a huge battery, every port you could ever need, and a weight of just under eight pounds. It even has RGB lights in its trackpad for extra flair, but you won’t need much to stand out with this monster.

Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4

Sennheiser announced a fresh set of high-end earbuds at CES that pack in a lot of enhancements for better sound quality. Called the Momentum True Wireless 4, they look a lot like their predecessor but come with new features on the inside. That includes “more than a dozen” improvements, according to the company, as well as support for Qualcomm’s S5 Sound Gen 2 platform which, in the future, will deliver lossless audio over Bluetooth. There’s also better antennas, improved noise cancellation, and up to up to 7.5 hours of battery life. They cost $300 and go up for preorder on February 15th.

HP Omen Transcend 14

If you love to game but want a laptop with a bit of charm, HP’s Omen Transcend 14 is right up your alley. It’s one of the thinnest and lightest gaming laptops at the show at 17.78mm thin and 3.6 lb in weight. It also has less aggressive RGB lighting and a more subtle aesthetic. Inside, you still get solid specs like a 14-inch OLED display, an Intel Core Ultra 7 or 9 chipset, Nvidia RTX 4070 graphics, up to 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, a 71Wh battery, and even Wi-Fi 7. It’s up for preorder now for $1,499.99.

Razer Blade 16

The Razer Blade 16 didn’t get any crazy redesigns this year, but it did get a big bump in display quality thanks to a new OLED panel with a 240Hz refresh rate and Quad HD resolution. In the future, 16-inch laptop will also be available with a dual-mode Mini-LED screen, which means you can switch the resolution between 4K and 120Hz or 1600p at 240Hz. Plus, there’s new 14th Gen Intel Core processors for a speed bump. It’s up for preorder now for $2,999.99.

Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra and S8 Max Ultra

Roborock’s new S8 MaxV Ultra vacuum cleaner has a really neat new feature: an arm that can extend to tidy up corners and other tough spots. That’s in addition to a variety of other new features like improved mopping, a camera for AI-powered obstacle identification and video calls, a custom voice assistant for easy commands, a new docking station, and support for the Matter smart home platform. It lives alongside the S8 Max Ultra which misses out on the camera, Matter, the voice assistant, and the more powerful suction. Respectively, they’ll cost $1,800 and $1,600 and go on sale in April.

Alienware 32 4K QD-OLED Gaming Monitor

Alienware impressed us a lot with its new 32 4K QD-OLED Gaming Monitor, which the company calls the world’s first 4K QD-OLED gaming monitor. Colors will be more vibrant than ever, while black levels will remain nice and dark. It has a curved 32-inch screen for an immersive experience, 1,000 nits of brightness, a 240Hz refresh rate, and support for Nvidia G-Sync. It launches on January 11 for $1,200.

Dell XPS series

Dell refreshed its XPS series for CES 2024 with the new XPS 13, XPS 14, and XPS 16 models. They’re all just as beautiful to look at as ever, with edge-to-edge keyboards and slim profiles. You get the latest Intel Core Ultra processors inside (besides the XPS 13 which has slightly slower chips), various graphics options, bigger batteries, and beautiful OLED displays. Plus, they’re some of the first laptops to ship with Microsoft’s new Copilot key in the keyboard, which lets you spring the AI assistant to life whenever you want. The laptops start at $1,299, but we’re not sure when they’ll be available.

GE Profile Smart Indoor Smoker

Ever want to smoke your favorites meats inside? That’s the idea behind GE Profile’s new electric Smart Indoor Smoker, which is designed to handle smaller portions of your favorite proteins while still letting you infuse all the flavors you want over lengthy smoking sessions. It fits right on your kitchen counter and won’t fill your house with smoke while using it. It’s smart, of course, so you can monitor your meats from your phone, set the perfect temperature using various guides, and it’ll even learn your preferences over time to fine-tune your smoking style. It retails for $1,000 and is available from stores like Best Buy and William Sonoma.

MSI Claw

MSI wants a piece of the portable gaming action, and it’s doing that with the new Claw gaming console. Designed similarly to other devices like the Steam Deck and Lenovo Legion Go, the Claw has a 7-inch 120Hz display, optional Intel Core Ultra processors, a 53Wh battery, and Windows 11 with MSI’s Center M software on top. It can also run Android games through a built-in emulator. It’s starting at $699 and $799 for a couple different configurations, and it’s launching by the second half of 2024.
