Connections can get tricky, so Newsweek is here to provide some tips and hints—and the answers for anyone who needs them.

The game from The New York Times has taken the internet by storm since it was launched in June 2023, and has since become the publication’s second most-played brainteaser after Wordle.

While Wordle, which was created by Josh Wardle, requires players to find the word of the day, Connections sets players the task of finding the connections between a series of words and grouping them in four categories. Like Wordle, the new game can be played online on web browsers and mobile devices.

How To Play ‘Connections’

Each puzzle consists of 16 words, with each group of words separated into four categories.

Players need to figure out the common thread between each category, which are assigned a color—yellow, green, blue and purple. Categories are more difficult to identify depending on their color, with yellow being the easiest, then green, blue, and finally purple being the hardest category.

And to make the task even trickier, sometimes a word can belong to more than one category. but there is only one correct answer.

If all four words from one category are correctly guessed, those words will be removed from the board. But each incorrect guess counts as a mistake, and players can make up to four mistakes before the game ends. Players are also allowed to shuffle the board, which can help make the game easier.

The game’s editor, Wyna Liu has advised that if you notice that there are five or more words that belong to one category, try pivoting to a different category before making your first guess. “Doing so might take one of those extra cards out of contention, or at least remove a few cards from the board, making other categories easier to see,” Liu said.

The answers to today’s Connections will be revealed at the end of this article, so please scroll down with caution if you want to work them out for yourself.
