Taylor Swift fans have defended Travis Kelce after he threw a friendship bracelet back to an audience member at one of his girlfriend’s concerts.

The pop superstar has just wrapped up the Australian leg of her record-breaking Eras Tour. She had a series of shows in Melbourne from February 16 to 18 where she played to 96,000 people at each of the three concerts. She then performed sold-out shows in Sydney from February 23 to 26.

The NFL star jetted out to support his girlfriend and the pair were often spotted taking in the sights together. Now a video of him at one of Swift’s concerts has gone viral.

In a clip posted to X (formerly Twitter) by user @VIsOnCorneliaSt, Kelce is thrown a bracelet by someone in the crowd. He then throws it back at them before smiling. “did he just caught the bracelet and threw it back?” they captioned the post alongside a laugh-crying emoji.

At the time of writing the post had 1.1 million views.

Friendship bracelets have become synonymous with Swift and her Eras Tour, with the idea coming from her song “You’re on Your Own, Kid” from her album Midnights. The lyrics in the song are, “So, make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it.” It isn’t uncommon for Swifties to give bracelets to each other as well as celebrities that are in attendance at the singer’s concerts.

People online have defended Kelce for his actions, with many saying it’s just his grid iron reflexes kicking in.

Newsweek contacted a representative for Kelce for comment via email Tuesday.

“treating it like it’s another ball he’s passing,” a third person commented.

“headline: professional footballer good at catching and throwing things,” someone else wrote.

A fifth person said they could personally understand why he would throw it back: “I’m sorry but I would get annoyed too. Like I’m trying to watch Taylor perform stop bothering me ??”

He headed back to the U.S. to reunite with his Kansas City Chiefs team members to continue celebrating their Super Bowl 2024 win against the San Francisco 49ers.

Swift had to stay behind to wrap up her Australian portion of her Eras Tour and she will then continue the international leg in Singapore. Her next performance is on March 2 in Singapore, where she will perform six shows.

Swift fans previously criticized the Australian media, as they weren’t impressed by their treatment of Swift and Kelce. When couple visited Sydney Zoo together fans slammed the media for using a helicopter to take pictures and videos of the pair during their visit.
