A Ukrainian soldier has described how he and his comrades attacked Russia’s most-advanced tank using an M2 Bradley. It comes amid reports that the U.S.-supplied infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) has been effective in taking on Moscow’s forces.

As part of its military support for Kyiv, the U.S. has supplied Ukraine with 186 Bradley IFVs so far in the war, along with four support-team vehicles. Ukraine’s armed forces have released footage of what they say are successful strikes against Russian targets using the American IFV. Newsweek has as yet been unable to verify the clip.

Video that Kyiv posted on social media this week showed what looked to a Bradley firing on a Russian T-90M tank with a 25mm chain gun. Open-source intelligence linked the footage to Ukraine’s 47th Mechanized Brigade operating around Stepove, northwest of the Donetsk town of Avdiivka.

Newsweek has contacted the Russian Defense Ministry about the latest Ukrainian claims about its targeting of a T-90. The tank is also known as the Breakthrough and, as an upgraded version of the T-72, is a competitor to the U.S. M1 Abrams.

A video posted on Friday by the pro-Ukrainian X, formerly Twitter, account WarTranslated, which has gone viral, shows two Ukrainian troops from the 47th Mechanized Brigade talking about how they took on Russia’s newest and most resilient tank on only their second assignment together since training.

In the interview with the pair, the Ukrainian news outlet TCH gave only the first names of the Bradley’s commander and gunner, who was named as Serhiy, and the driver, Oleksandr.

“I can’t express what it means to see a tank in the sights,” Serhiy said, according to a translation that was captioned by WarTranslated. “In training, I was saying, ‘god forbid I see a tank in the sights’. It turned out that I did, and it was very close,” he said, with a laugh.

The pair described how they fired on the Russian tank “with all we could” as Serhiy said, “as I played video games, I remembered everything, both how to hit them and where. I could stop him at any cost.”

As of Saturday, the package, whose reporter said was filmed on the road in Avdiivka, Donetsk oblast, had received more than 4 million views. WarTranslated wrote: “A more personal and detailed interview with the crew of the Ukrainian Bradley which took on a Russian T-90M.”

Bradleys have been touted as making a big difference for Ukraine. As previously reported by Newsweek, a Ukrainian commander of the 47th Mechanized Brigade said that Russian soldiers are afraid to launch operations “when they know that a Bradley will be against them.”
