Watch This Bulldog’s Entire Mood Change the Minute He Hears the Magic Word

An English bulldog’s mood took a dramatic shift in a video posted to social media and all it took was his owner saying one magic word.

In the clip shared on TikTok the dog, called Harry, can be seen standing and barking in his owner’s house. It’s clear he’s not in the best of moods.

But as his owner, who posted the clip to the account @englishharry, demonstrates, the animal’s mood is changeable. “Watch how his facial expressions change,” an onscreen caption reads.

Harry’s owner can be heard telling him: “Harry, let’s talk about it.” The dog responds to his human with more barks. Struggling to understand his grumpiness, the owner tells him: “You went for a walk.”

At the utterance of the final word, “walk,” Harry stops still and ceases barking. His face lights up, evidently at the prospect of going on a walk.

Walks are a huge part of any healthy dog’s life, with the U.S. Department of Agriculture recommending dogs get at least 30 minutes of exercise per day. Most dogs and their owners go beyond that. In 2019, a survey of 2,000 adults conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Lintbells, a manufacturer of natural joint supplements for pets, found that the average dog owner walks more than 21 miles a week with almost 17 of these miles completed in the company of their pet.

By comparison, those without a dog were found to walk less than 14 miles a week. All told, dog walkers clocked up around 870 miles a year walking their canine chum.

Judging from his reaction in the clip, Harry is a fan of walks and evidently understands the meaning of the word. The American Psychological Association estimates dogs are capable of learning up to 150 human words and, given how often they get taken for a walk, it makes sense they would understand this particular phrase.

There are examples on the internet of dogs reacting in a similar way to other familiar human phrases.

Harry’s mood shifts were relatable to many viewers, which at the time of writing had been viewed over 768,000 times. “Bully stomps & grumbles are so funny…my girl is just as sassy!” one TikToker wrote, while another added: “Oh my the sassiness!”

Many theorized that Harry was angling to go out for a walk having forgotten he’d already been taken on one.

“Harry just didn’t remember,” one viewer said with another adding: “Harry’s questioning his own memory.” A third, meanwhile, summed it all up rather nicely with the comment: “It’s hard being Harry.”
