A video of a passenger’s attempt at filming an “aesthetic” video of her daughter on a plane has gone viral on TikTok.

The clip was shared to the social media platform by user @natinadja and has had 1.8 million views since it was first shared on February 5.

A message overlaid on the clip says: “POV [point of view]: You ask your mom to take an aesthetic video of you leaving the plane but the video looks like you got mad and left her there alone.”

The 5-second video begins with a view inside a plane with some passengers standing in their seats, while one woman is shown at the end of the aisle exiting the plane. It then cuts to a view of the same woman stepping off some stairs attached to the plane and walking across an airport tarmac before the video ends.

A caption shared with the post reads: “She tried her best and that’s what matters.”

Newsweek has contacted @natinadja for comment via TikTok. This video has not been independently verified.

The latest post comes as “international family travel is making a strong comeback” after grinding to a halt during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a 2023 U.S. Family Travel Survey conducted by the Family Travel Association, in partnership with the NYU School of Professional Studies, Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality and Edinburgh Napier University.

As digitally unsavvy as the traveling mom in the latest post may have seemed, there has been a significant growth in the adoption of technology among older generations since 2012, according to 2019 survey by the Pew Research Center.

The survey found that more than 93 percent of millennials (those born roughly between 1981 and 1996) own smartphones, compared with 90 percent of Gen Xers (born roughly between 1965 and 1980), 68 percent of baby boomers (born roughly between 1946 and 1964), and 40 percent of the Silent Generation (born roughly between 1928 and 1945).

While the share of millennials who use social media has remained largely unchanged since 2012, the portion of “Gen Xers, Boomers and Silents” who use social media have all risen by at least 10 percentage points during this period, according to the survey.

A lack of digital technology skills among older generations may have a lot to do with confidence.

A 2015 Pew Research Center survey found that roughly a third of internet users aged 65 and over describe themselves as either only a little (23 percent) or not at all (11 percent) confident in their ability to use electronic devices to do necessary online activities.
