Woman Has Tiniest Kitten With No Chance of Survival ‘Humanely Euthanized’

Hearts are breaking after a woman dedicated her time to care for a tiny kitten who had a zero percent chance of survival.

Sarah Peterson is no stranger to kittens as she’s helped raise plenty, but even she was surprised at the size of the kitten born to a friend’s cat.

The micro kitten, as Peterson described her, was less than half the size of her brother who was born just an hour before. The tiny baby was struggling to breathe, gasping for air. And as much as Peterson wanted to keep her, deep down she knew there was nothing she could do.

In the January 18 TikTok video posted to the account @mr.buggles, Peterson explained that the only thing that felt right was to keep the kitten alive as long as possible until she could be “humanely euthanized” at the veterinarian’s office.

It was 4 a.m. at the time Peterson was filming the kitten. She vowed to keep her as comfortable as possible until a vet opened, which wouldn’t be until a few hours later. The kitten was wrapped up in blankets with Peterson ever-so-gently rubbing her tiny body.

Viewers were shocked that something could be so little. The baby was just 21 grams (.05lb or .74oz), Peterson said in a comment.

“That is the smallest little bean omg,” said one TikTok user. And thus, her name Bean was born.

Peterson told Newsweek that the kitten survived those few hours and that she was able to get Bean to the vet.

“The vet did a workup on her to find that she had a cleft palate, underdeveloped lungs, and heart,” Peterson said. “As well as no anus, no ear canals, and severely twisted legs. Even her little feet were underdeveloped.”

The poor kitten did not stand a chance of living a full life. She was given a zero percent chance of survival, which is why the decision was made. Bean went peacefully at 7:17 a.m., the same morning she was born.

Peterson believes the mama cat was too young to be having kittens, which played a role in the micro kitten.

Plus, Bean wasn’t the only micro kitten in the litter. There was a second one, but Peterson decided not to show that one because the baby was “deformed” and she did not feel comfortable showing it.

Peterson said in the caption that these two micro kittens are a result of her friend’s cat not being spayed and inbreeding. Wag! reported that common gene defects like cleft palates and bone deformities are due to incestual breeding. One way to stop inbreeding is by spaying and neutering as it prevents cats from reproducing.

As gut-wrenching as this story is, viewers have found a silver lining.

“She’ll come back stronger next time. How fortunate she ended up with you to know and feel love and warmth in her short time here,” a viewer commented.

Another added: “All that little baby knew was love, comfort and compassion. So to her, it was the best possible life she could ever have no matter how short it was.”
