Does anyone really enjoy doing laundry? Well, one woman has found a way to add a bit of fun to the daily routine by giving her washer a makeover that even Barbie would be proud of.

While Erica Stolman Dowdy was having her garage decorated, it became clear that some of the appliances needed to be spruced up so they would match the vibrant new aesthetic. As the Californian is working with a decorator to create the perfect space for a home office, they had the bright idea of making the washer part of the décor by transforming it with a lick of pink paint.

The appliance’s new design is exactly what Dowdy has imagined, telling Newsweek that she “absolutely [loves] the end result.”

With the pink appliance adding so much flair to her garage, Dowdy couldn’t resist sharing it on TikTok (@ericastolmandowdy) to amuse her thousands of followers. Since the video of her “strawberries and cream washing machine” was posted on December 5, it has already generated more than 9.1 million views and over 643,600 likes on TikTok.

After going viral, Dowdy said: “I’m making over my garage to be my office, so my decorator figured why not make the washer/dryer match the vibe, versus it standing out like an eyesore. It took about four hours in total, and the magnets I stuck on the front are little angels that I actually made myself.”

Having a perfectly curated home office is vital for many Americans, as Pew Research Center estimates that 35 percent of people with jobs that permit remote working do so all the time, and 20 percent are hybrid. Whether you think it’s better or worse to work remotely, 71 percent said it helped create balance between work and personal life, and 56 percent said it makes meeting deadlines a lot easier.

Since she posted the video of her washer’s makeover online, Dowdy, from San Diego, has been delighted by the huge response she’s received. She hopes that it might inspire others to do their own home makeovers, as she wrote on TikTok: “This is a sign to paint your washing machine pink.” However, when a post is viewed over 9 million times, it’s undoubtedly going to generate all kinds of reactions online.

“TikTok has liked it for the most part, but of course with any viral video, there are lots of opinions still rolling in,” Dowdy told Newsweek. With so much praise and shock for her revamped washer, Dowdy followed the first video with a second clip of the appliance, complete with a pink bow for added effect.

Among the 3,900 comments on Dowdy’s viral video, some TikTok users heaped praise on the novel idea, while others shared their distaste for it. One comment reads: “It’s giving the landlord special.”

Another person responded: “I thought I would hate the result but I love it.”

But one social media who was less than impressed wrote: “A crime was committed.”
