Booking in for a big chop is always a daunting time, with years’ worth of hair growth put into the hands of your stylist, which is why its recommended to enter the salon armed with inspiration pictures to ensure you’re on the same page about the style you’re going for.

Unfortunately, for some hairstylists, inspiration pictures aren’t always enough, and a woman has been left less than happy following a recent trip to the hair salon, when she walked out with a new cut she wasn’t expecting.

Elisabetta, known on TikTok as @lifewithelish, shared a series of three images showing her hair before the cut, the inspiration picture, and the finished style. The video has since gained over 2.2 million views since it was posted on March 26.

Elisabetta revealed in the caption that she hadn’t had a haircut in four years, intending to take her long hair to a chic bob—instead, she was left with a choppy layered cut that left a lot to be desired.

The haircut gained so much attention that she returned to TikTok to share the story behind what happened, in a second video, telling viewers that she reached out to the salon after the service: “I explained everything, how I was upset, I was dissatisfied that the hairdresser just did whatever he wanted rather than listening to me.

“After a few hours, I received a call from the salon owner, who offered to see me the following day and fix things for me … I ended up going in today, and this was the result.

“The hair is very, very short, but the actual problem is that it’s layered. In the cut [I had asked for,] the hair was not layered.

“Honestly, I’m still really, really unhappy with it, but it is what it is for now and I’m just going to have to go with it.”

The salon also offered a second complimentary haircut for when she gets to a stage when her hair has grown out enough.

She said, “I’m expecting to get that result [the inspiration picture] in July—that’s a long time, it’s just the end of March now, so it’s a long way to go.”

What Do the Comments Say?

People in the comments were quick to share their thoughts on Elisabetta’s new style, with one saying: “You went from a blunt cut with some minimal face framing curtain bangs, to … I’m just not understanding his layering.”

Another said: “My hair is down to my waist bc I was so traumatized by a haircut I never cut my hair again other than a few trims I’ve done myself.”

Hairstylists also shared their thoughts, with one commenting: “OMG, as a hairdresser and salon owner I am so sorry, never in my life!!! I would raise hell with salon …”

Another offered some words of wisdom for finding the right stylist: “Advice from a retired stylist. Referrals were the name of the game and how I got most of my clients. Find someone’s hair that you like, ask them who they go to.

“Don’t just go to anyone at that salon, go to the person they go to. Discuss your hair type and expectations. Your hair may not be the same texture, etc. to the person’s that you liked. A good stylist should explain all of this to you before they begin.”
