One woman’s experience with at-home eyebrow tinting has left the internet in shock.

After applying the tint gel, Muireann, who posts on TikTok under the handle @muir34nn, accidentally fell asleep for nearly two hours. The consequences? Nothing short of disastrous.

Eyebrow tinting is a semi-permanent makeup procedure that involves applying a dye to the eyebrows to enhance and darken them. At-home tinting kits have become increasingly popular, allowing beauty fans to tint their own brows at home for a lower cost.

But Muireann’s experience, shared in a video on TikTok, has served as a cautionary tale. Despite the recommended processing time of just a few minutes, Muireann unintentionally left the tint on for an extended period, leaving her completely unable to remove the dye that stubbornly clung to her brows.

Newsweek has reached out to @muir34nn via TikTok for comment.

In the video that has a staggering 35 million views on TikTok, the Australian, who now lives in the U.K., reacted as she tried to wipe off the dye.

“Oh no,” she said. “Be for real. Come on.”

The average time for allowing tint liquid to process on eyebrows before wiping it off varies depending on the manufacturer, but is generally between two and nine minutes, meaning that Muireann’s hour-and-a-half was well over the usual recommended time.

Her followers were quick to react, with comments ranging from amusement to sympathy.

“Emergency bangs commence,” suggested one commenter, who thought a hairstyle would be the best way to hide the mishap. Another viewer questioned how it had happened at all: “HOW do you fall asleep with that on???” they asked.

Others found humor in the situation. One TikTok user wrote: “Funniest thing I’ve seen all week!!!”

Another saw the experience as a cautionary tale: “New fear unlocked.”

This isn’t the first eyebrow saga to gain viral attention recently. Earlier this month another beauty fan shared why a popular beauty product doesn’t mix with eyebrow waxing when she was left with painful burns.

Despite Muireann’s attempts to salvage the situation by trying various methods to remove the tint, including suggestions to use concealer or scrubbing, she found little success at first.

“Nothing has made a big enough difference that I would happily go outside like this,” she said in a follow-up video.

Thankfully after a day of trial and error, her persistence paid off. In a video update just a day later, she said that her brows looked significantly better.

Since sharing the experience, many people online have been reminded of the importance of reading the instructions carefully on at-home beauty products.
