Woman Shares Reality of Bedtime With 8 German Shepherds: ‘Safe’

It’s that nightly ritual of trying to cover yourself in enough of the quilt to stay warm, while gradually being pushed out of the bed as your dog stretches out infuriatingly. It’s a routine that many pet owners are all too familiar with, but spare a thought for this woman who has to share her space with eight dogs, rather than just one.

When Crystal Boyd heads upstairs to bed in her Virginia home, she knows it’s going to be a struggle to find any space among her German shepherds. As the six females make themselves comfortable in the king-sized bed, space on the mattress might be limited, but at least Boyd knows she’s cozy and well protected.

It’s a reality that some people couldn’t even imagine—especially those who love having ample space at night. But earlier in December, Boyd shared a video on TikTok (@chickenchick86) to show her followers what it’s really like to share the bed with six large dogs, and have two more lying elsewhere in the room.

The clip instantly went viral and has now been viewed more than 1.8 million times and received over 208,800 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.

Letting Dogs Sleep in the Bed

There are many owners who wouldn’t dream of going to bed without their four-legged friend by their side. According to a survey by YouGov in 2022, 64 percent of pet owners are happy to let their cat or dog sleep in the same bed as them, compared to 34 percent who draw the line there.

With pets playing a huge role in the lives of their owners, results from YouGov also found that 57 percent will buy their pet holiday gifts, and 40 percent get them birthday presents too.

So, many dog owners may be happy to let their pup lay at their feet while they snooze, or maybe even right beside them with their head on the pillow. Listening to one dog snore is usually bad enough, but how many people have to share with several large breeds at once?

For Boyd, the six female German shepherds on her bed aren’t the only dogs in her home, as she also has two males who prefer to sleep elsewhere (who could blame them?). In the video, Boyd explains that one is asleep beside the bed, and the other male is in the bathroom, which is his preferred spot. She regularly shares videos of her life with so many dogs under one roof, often to show people how gentle and loving they can be.

Since the adorable clip of her nighttime routine was posted on December 6, it has already received more than 3,100 TikTok comments, as many social media users were left amazed by the whole pack sleeping together in one bed.

One comment reads: “Now that’s a cuddle puddle.”

Another person responded: “I can barely deal with one dog, let alone six.”

While another TikToker joked: “That’s one safe house.”
