There is nothing like the approval of your child when reentering the dating scene, but sometimes, that support might look a bit odd.

A video posted by Jake Gould to the account @jakesfunny has gone viral on TikTok for revealing his hilarious interruptions to his father’s date at home. Over the course of the clip, Jake enters in increasingly ridiculous outfits, from a detective to a gorilla, excusing himself with phrases such as, “I’m not here.” In just one day, the video has racked up more than 3.4 million views and over 370,000 likes.

While his father appears both embarrassed and tickled by his son’s antics, the date looks on amused. “Is this what you warned me about?” she eventually asks Jake’s father.

Jake Gould appears in various costumes while his dad and his love interest sit on the couch. The full-time comedian has gone viral on TikTok for his hilarious interruptions to his father’s date.

Jake, 26, a full-time comedian, told Newsweek that his dad, who has been single for the past 15 years since his divorce, recently reconnected with the date on Facebook. The pair went to the same elementary school, making it a near-55-year reunion. Jake said that the clip was made on one of his dad’s early dates with this rediscovered love interest.

“That video I made was maybe on their third date… she was already aware of the videos, so my dad had warned her several times about the potential for me to do something stupid if he brought her around,” Jake said. “Of course, she was a great sport about it.” One viewer agreed, writing: “She’s a keeper. He better not break her heart.”

Drawing from his collection of costumes collected over years of creating videos, Jake chose a few select ones from his “prop closet” to trial on the couple. The result was a line-up of progressively more involved get-ups, ending with a clown, and plenty of laughs from his dad and date.

Jake said that he had been living with his father since graduating college in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With ample time on his hands, Jake started creating content on TikTok, and using his dad as a participant in his antics.

“I thought, ‘What better thing to do than prank the person I’m locked in with?'” Jake said. “I had been pulling stunts like this my whole life, so why not put a camera to it?

“And by the way,” Jake added, “for anyone keeping score, my dad has embarrassed me countless times throughout my life, so, as far as I’m concerned, this is just payback.”

Despite the embarrassment, Jake’s dad seemed to adjust to the idea of his son’s interruptions, and, Jake said it certainly hasn’t compromised the couple’s potential.

“My dad is the greatest guy in the world, but he has been single for the past 15 years since my mom and him divorced,” Jake added. “The date went great! They’ve been on several now, and I even saw her yesterday, and she told me she found it hilarious that it went viral. Unfortunately for the other ladies, my dad could potentially be off the market soon.”

His dad may not be as much of a feature in his future videos, anyway, as Jake plans to move to Hollywood. Given the amount of airtime his father has gotten, though, it is safe to say he has paid his dues.
